Hello Mass Timber Community,

As 2024 comes to a close, I hope you’re reflecting on a successful year of mass timber projects and initiatives! It’s been an incredible year for advancing mass timber across Michigan, the Great Lakes Region, and beyond. In Michigan, we now have 55 mass timber projects in the pipeline—either completed, under construction, or in development. And we're starting to hear real conversations about potential mass timber production in our state! Read on to see how MassTimber@MSU wrapped up the year, celebrating the progress and accomplishments of the mass timber community—and what’s to come in the new year. As always, let me know how we can support your mass timber success!

We were able to announce at the MI Mass Timber Update last week another major step forward in #MIMassTimberMomentum: the adoption of the 2021 Michigan Building Code, which will officially take effect on April 9, 2025!

Michigan is currently operating under the 2015 Michigan Building Code, but the new 2021 code will allow mass timber buildings up to 18 stories. In the new year, MassTimber@MSU will collaborate with the American Wood Council and WoodWorks to help prepare the AEC community with training opportunities.
