La Petite Section Goes to the Farm

La Petite Section has been thoroughly examining the transdisciplinary theme of Who We Are through their central idea We are human beings who have different characteristics from animals.

To further their inquiry, la petite section students went to Wolfe’s Neck Farm to see first hand the differences (and similarities) between ourselves and animals. They started their morning visiting the animals and took time to visit each animal closely identified some of the different body parts: wings, hooves, tails before talk with animal experts at the farm about about how they grow: some lay eggs, some have live babies; and what they eat. After their research, they also had time for a tractor ride, and playing in the digging pit in the barn! (After helping out with some barn chores, of course)

One of the questions la petite section has been asking themselves is: Do animals go to the doctor’s? Please stay tuned as the class calls in a new expert next week who may be able to shed some light on their questions.

Students Prepare to Travel Through Space and Time

This week our grades 3,4 & 5 had the wonderful treat of opening their new unit with Jenny and Riley at the Freeport Community Library. This new unit, under the transdisciplinary theme of “How the World Works” asks students to inquire how:  Life on Earth is tied to its place in the solar system and the universe.

This unit will also include a very special visit from a local scientist and space expert coming up in December. The school has invited John Meader of Northern Stars Planetarium to offer several presentations to our school population. The visiting "Super Dome" is a traveling planetarium experience that will be a one-of-a-kind memory for years to come! We look forward to this school day event and all the learning that will happen before then about our universe!

The visit from the “Super Dome” will also coincide with the CE1-CE2 unit under Who We Are, focusing on how stories help us understand other points of view. Their class will join our eldest students to examine the sky and discover the stories written in the stars by our ancestors, around the world.

In Maternelle, the GS and MS are both examining the transdisciplinary theme of Where We Are in Time and Space. Their visit to the “Super Dome” will allow them further their work on their unit We need reference points to situate ourselves in time, as they examine the ways humans have used the sky to track the passage of time. The Moyenne Section in their turn, will use their research conducted in the “Super Dome” toward their unit We use our senses to understand and adapt to the world around us. to examine how seasons are created and how we, and other animals, adapt to the night.

Freeport Community Services - Thanksgiving Drive

We are immensely proud to host once again our yearly special donation site for Freeport Community Services' annual Thanksgiving Program Food Drive. This long-standing EFDM tradition and collaboration with Freeport Community Services is a wonderful opportunity for us all to practice the true spirit of Thanksgiving through gratitude for and generosity to those around us. This drive helps those who need it most and allows our students to take an active role as caring, responsible members of our greater community. Thank you for your time, action, and generosity.

Please review the details above for items requested this year. After today, please drop off donation items directly at the FCS. Merci!

If you are interested in this school vacation camp for your childcare needs, please let us know ASAP so we can prepare to host another week of fun at l’école.!

This year, February break Camp will potentially take place from:

Monday-Friday February 17th-21st from 8:30am-3:30pm

Please answer the questions on the form linked here to assist in our planning.

Cedarworks Rock-a-saurus!

We hope families have been enjoying the new Cedarworks Rock-a-Saurus stationed by the playground entry path! This delightful heirloom playground piece was donated by a former parent of L'Ecole Francaise du Maine whose children were in attendance back when the school first was founded. Now that her children have outgrown it, the rock-a-saurus has found a new home, where generations to come will rock and roll to their heart's delight! A big thank you to Brenda Rodrigue for this generous donation! Brenda is pictured above testing the rock-a-saurus with our co-founder Beth LeBihan before they brought it to L'Ecole. Merci beaucoup Brenda!

COVID-19 Protocols

The graphic chart below indicates what you need to do if your child is exposed to or contracts COVID-19. These protocols are subject to change. We will publish updates in this newsletter should they occur.

To help keep our community healthy:
Should your child be exposed to COVID or experience symptoms, please test before coming to school.
Thank you for keeping your student home when unwell!
