Welcome Leadership Huntington Class of 2024-2025 👋 | |
|
What an amazing start to Leadership Huntington for the Class of 2024-2025, presented by Marshall Health Network! The class was welcomed by 2023-24 Leadership Huntington classmates Megan Archer, Digital Marketing and Media Manager at Marshall Health Network and Matt James, VP of Alumni Relations at Marshall University; Christian Spears, Marshall University Director of Athletics; and Casey Leguire, SVP at Peoples Insurance Agency.
The excitement continued with a fun fact scavenger hunt—did you know one of our classmates met Usher in Germany? We then delved into business etiquette with Pam Harvit from the Harvit School of Etiquette and Protocol.
Day 2 was just as inspiring, featuring a Design Thinking workshop led by Marshall University's Dr. Ben Eng and Paige Leonard, focusing on innovative solutions for human-centered problems. We also explored our strengths with a CliftonStrengths overview by Laura Seybold of Shine Consulting.
Thank you to Peoples Bank for sponsoring our orientation, Mountwest Community & Technical College for hosting us, and Butter It Up at The Market for keeping us caffeinated! Here’s to an incredible year ahead!

Last week, the Women's Impact Network delved into the pressures of perfection with Jill Rice from Dinsmore & Shohl. Why do women juggle so many tasks and chase perfection in every role? Is it society's expectations or something else? We explored whether these superhuman standards are helping or hindering our happiness.
Stay tuned for more information about next month's event about financial wellbeing.

ARPA Contribution to Huntington Area Convention
and Visitors Bureau
| |
|
Huntington City Councilman Mike Shockley has committed $66,500 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to the Huntington Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).
These funds will assist the CVB with signage, promotion and marketing riverfront redevelopment at Harris Riverfront Park. The funding also contributes to broader goals of community recovery and resilience in the wake of COVID-19.
“We are extremely grateful to Councilman Shockley for the allocation of these funds to the Huntington Area Convention and Visitors Bureau,” said Tyson Compton, president of the CVB. “While our tourism efforts took a hit from the pandemic, we have been working to not only regain our footing but also to increase our efforts to bring visitors to our community.
“Tourism is proving to be big business for our state, our city and our counties. In Cabell and Wayne counties alone, tourism employs more than 4,000 people and generates more than $330 million in annual travel spending. These funds will allow us to expand our advertising reach while investing in local opportunities, such as riverfront development, that will enhance our attraction to visitors.”
