Dear Laker Community,
As we approach the peak of the Florida hurricane season, I want to take a moment to inform you of our safety protocols during weather events, particularly thunderstorms during afternoon carline. The safety of our students, teachers, faculty, staff, and parents is always our top priority, and we have established strict guidelines to ensure that everyone remains secure in the event of severe weather.
During afternoon carline, if severe weather conditions are detected, particularly nearby lightning strikes, we will initiate our Shelter in Place protocol. This means that all students, faculty, and staff will remain indoors and under cover until the storm has passed and it is safe to resume dismissal. This will necessitate closing the carline gates temporarily and postponing dismissal for as long as required.
I understand that these delays are inconvenient, but the unpredictability and severity of Florida's weather make these precautions essential. Lightning strikes are particularly dangerous, and even a brief exposure can result in dangerous outcomes. Therefore, we ask for your patience and cooperation during these times as we prioritize the safety of our entire Laker community.
To ensure we have accurate and up-to-date weather data, Windermere Prep utilizes Weatherstem, a state-of-the-art weather monitoring system. This system provides us with real-time information and alerts, allowing us to make informed decisions about campus safety.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of Windermere Preparatory School throughout this storm season.
