Hello All!

I hope you are all doing great! I know this reduction in heat/humidity has us all feeling a little better these days. As we approach our fall season, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Christmas Party/Auction Event is December 17th. We will be needing donations again this year, so be thinking of how you want to help. Any questions, please let me know.

Board Positions are Available: Our biggest need is for our event/speaker planner position. We have several ideas/suggestions already for 2025, so please don't think you will not have any support or help in taking over and learning this position. Additionally, we need someone to take over as the school liaison for 2025 (but again, we will help you learn what you need to know).

We look forward to seeing you all next week. We have Mr. Ryan McNeil, Attorney with Brinkley Walser Stoner coming to speak with us. This should be an informative session both on a business and personal basis for all of us.

Thank you,

Sharon McGee

This virtual, interactive conference is open to and appropriate for those who work in the fields of counseling, palliative care, hospice, funeral services, and more.

Beginning at 9am (EST), the conference will last until 3pm (including a break for lunch). The structure will include presentations from Dr. Hilliker, online conversation with fellow participants, and multiple opportunities for Q&A. Credentials for accessing this virtual conference will be provided approximately one week prior to the event.

Five (5) Continuing Education Units are available from the North Carolina Board of Funeral Services. NBCC Continuing Education Units pending.

In this virtual, interactive conference, Dr. Laurel Hilliker, PhD, FT (Fellow in Thanatology), will address personal and professional experiences of transformative grief, focusing on what helps and what derails the journey. She will examine current discourse in both the scholarly research and the general public regarding the transformative nature of grieving a loss. This assessment will include the impact of different factors on the process of transformation and lead into an overview of different types of transformation, including cognitive, normative and existential aspects. Lastly, Dr. Hilliker will explore a new concept [Grief-ism] for consideration as a creative approach for support purposes that offers fresh insights on grief literacy. North Carolina Zoo

The North Carolina Zoo is reaching a milestone this year. Please join us in celebrating our 50th anniversary. Plans are underway to launch two new fundraising events as well as continue building the success of the popular family-friendly event – BOO at the Zoo.

Last year, our Zoo reached its goal of one million visitors during its 2023 season and we are confident that the goal will be met again this year. Guests can see the ongoing progress of Asia construction and habitat expansion each time they visit.

Please consider partnering with us to help raise money for our Zoo. We request that you add these exciting events to your events calendar. We invite statewide Chamber of Commerce Members the opportunity to attend and/or sponsor any or all of these events.

·       Boo at the Zoo – Annual daytime alternative to the nighttime Trick-or-Treating, Saturday and Sunday, October 26th & 27th   9-4 p.m. Candy locations in the Park, Inflatables, Games, DJ/Dance Party & Costume Contests.

With sponsorship of 1 or more events, sponsors will receive valuable recognition throughout the year. If you or your members would like more information regarding sponsorships, they can contact Karen Powell (kpowell@nczoo.com (336)-879-7262.

Thank you for supporting your North Carolina Zoo!
