Adopt A Pet from the Lassen
County Animal Shelter – Casper
He’s big, he’s playful, and he’s ready for his new forever home! Come on down to the Lassen County Animal Shelter to meet and visit with Casper. At present, he’s our longest kennel resident and he’s eager to move on to the next chapter of his life.
Casper is estimated to be about 2 years old and he still has some filling out to do. Potential adopters need to be prepared for a BIG dog and are advised to do research on guardian breeds; they aren’t for everyone.
| |
|
Since arriving as a stray, Casper has been a good boy. He’s housebroke and will wait until staff arrives in the morning to let him out in the play yard to relieve himself. He knows the ‘sit’ command and has been doing well with other dogs he’s been introduced to. His one hiccup is putting his big paws up on you, as if his previous own might have taught him to ‘hug’.
Casper has been neutered, heartworm tested negative, and brought up to date on his vaccinations. If there are other dogs in a potential new home, staff highly recommends bringing them along for a meet and greet to ensure all dogs get along. Please contact shelter staff for more information at 1.530.257.9200.
Featured animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter are available for adoption on a first-come-first-serve basis. According to California law, all adoptable dogs and cats must be spayed and neutered before leaving our facility. If interested in adopting an animal, please contact the shelter directly.
Current shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday. You can contact the shelter at 530.257.9200.

County Office of Ed Conducting Needs Assessment at Lassen High School
The Lassen County Office of Education, at the invitation of Lassen High Superintendent Jacob Jensen, is conducting a needs assessment at the high school. This effort is part of ongoing work to support continuous improvement in schools.
As a result, LCOE staff will be visiting the high school campus, observing its operations and meeting with staff members.
“This assessment is a standard process within the California Statewide System of Support, a framework designed to provide schools and districts with tools, resources, and strategies to enhance educational opportunities for students,” explains LCOE Communications Specialist Kaitlyn Midgely.
| |
|
The framework, supported by the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence, the California Department of Education and the State Board of Education, aims to:
- Increase equity and access for all students.
- Encourage collaboration and coordination among schools, districts, and support agencies.
- Provide expertise, programs, and resources tailored to meet the unique needs of local schools.
Through this system, county offices like LCOE serve as Lead Agencies, leveraging state and regional resources to address the specific needs of local educational agencies at universal, targeted, and intensive levels.
Superintendent Jensen emphasized the importance of this process, “This needs assessment is an opportunity to identify strengths and areas for growth at Lassen High School, ensuring our students have the support they need to succeed.”
“This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to improving educational outcomes for all students in Lassen County.”
For further details, please contact the Lassen County Office of Education at 1.530.257.2196.

Lassen Family Services Asking
for Support on GivingTuesday
Angela Reed, Executive Director of Lassen Family Services, is reaching out to the community for support tomorrow as part of the annual GivingTuesday, ‘a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity.’
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.
| |
|
“Our team at Lassen Family Services is always full of such appreciation for our amazing community of supporters, but we find ourselves reflecting on our deep gratitude even more around this time of year,” explains Reed. “If you plan to donate this season, we would be honored if you would consider Lassen Family Services, Inc. Your contribution will help us in our mission to provide crucial services to those that have been victimized.”
You can make a tax-deductible donation by following this link.
“And, of course,” says Reed, “if you have any questions about our cause, alternative ways to contribute, or other matters, please don’t hesitate to reach out. As always, your support means the world to us!”
