From LWHS PTSA President, Colleen Rutherford
Dear LWHS PTSA Community,
It is with deep gratitude that I write to you at the beginning of the holiday season. This fall, PTSA has been busy putting your talents, resources, and time to excellent use benefiting our community. We are deep in the throes of supporting the College Essay Workshop, Reflections, granting staff/teacher grants, planning Senior Party, supporting the upcoming Black College Fair, Senior Photography, and working to help clean-up and repurpose the Kang Closet. These are just a few of the programs we are supporting this fall - it is by no means an exhaustive list.
It is because of YOUR commitment to making sure that every student is successful at LWHS that we are able to do this work. And it is with the attitude of giving that I ask for your help for students in need at LWHS.
The PTSA is using this Tuesday, December 3rd, Giving Tuesday, as a jumping off point for our Students in Need campaign. PTSA is hoping you will give to this one-day special campaign to help pay for things like student lunch debt, items for the Kang Closet, and other counselor-deemed necessities for disadvantaged students in our community.
LWHS is, by and large, a community of immense abundance. That makes the smaller percentage of students in need all the more intense. This Tuesday you have the opportunity to help these students with your one-time, matchable gift. PTSA aims to level the playing field for families at Lake Washington with less than the majority.
Thank you for your continued support of LWHS PTSA and the entire LWHS community. I wish you a happy and warm Thanksgiving weekend.
With sincere gratitude,
Colleen Rutherford
LWHS PTSA President

From the Desk of LWHS Principal, Dr. Christine Bell
Dear Kang Families,
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our incredible community for coming together during and after last week’s windstorm. Your resilience and support of one another was truly inspiring. Families adjusted quickly to the unexpected school closures, even while managing the challenges of being without power. When students returned after the three-day shutdown, they jumped back into learning with focus and energy, showing once again why our students are so remarkable.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to share that our ASB is hosting a Winter Market on Wednesday, December 13th, in the high school commons. This event is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, shop from local vendors, and support our student body. There will be food trucks, plenty of festive spirit, and the Market leads right into the basketball game that evening. We hope to see you there!
Thank you for all you do to make our school and community so strong.
Go Kangs!
Christine Bell, Ed.D
Principal, Lake Washington High School
