News You Can Use In Ballwin

Missouri American Water contractors will be in your neighborhood

Missouri American Water contractors will be out canvassing neighborhoods in the City of Ballwin over the next few weeks. Missouri American Water needs to know which service lines contain lead pipe material, as part of their effort to replace all lead pipes by 2030.

Missouri American Water knows the service line material on the Company side of the service, but does not have records of the Customer owned portion of the service line. Lead service lines were typically constructed prior to 1930. Between 1930 and 1965, the plumbing industry transitioned from lead service lines to copper services lines. In order to ensure Missouri American Water Company meets the reporting requirements of the EPA, they will be conducting an inventory of the service lines in Ballwin.

This means Missouri American Water contractors will need to get inside your home to verify the material of the service line coming through the home foundation.

Contractors will have a badge and other identification you can ask for so you know they’re with Missouri American Water.

Please note if a service line contains lead, it does not mean the service line cannot be used. Missouri American Water regularly tests for lead in drinking water and the water meets state and federal water quality regulations, including those services with lead.

If you have any questions about this project, please call Missouri American Water at (866) 430-0820.

And as an FYI for Ballwin residents, if anyone comes to your door trying to sell you something, they are REQUIRED to have a solicitors permit from the Ballwin Police Department. If you’re unsure about anyone coming up to your door, don’t hesitate to call the Ballwin Police Department at (636) 227-9636.

Ries Road Construction begins soon

In 2025, the City of Ballwin will resurface Ries Road to address deteriorated pavement. Benefits include a smoother driving surface, upgraded and more cost efficient street lighting, and compliance with federal regulations. Approval of federal funding was received for the resurfacing of Ries Road, to which the City will receive reimbursement of 80% of the total construction cost.

This is a resurfacing project and not a street reconstruction. Since this project was made possible by a grant, the City is bound to the project specifications submitted during the grant process, and is limited in its ability to work outside of the approved scope of the project.
