A Message from the Headmaster
Dear Archway Trivium Families,
There is a phrase that is firmly in place in our vernacular that gives me pause. It has various versions, but the common element is “time to just be a kid.” What do we really mean when we talk of “being a kid?” I often assume it means time to be free of expectations and other roles such as student, athlete, artist, etc. The child may choose to engage in any of these activities during that time, but not with any structure other than the self-imposed structure of their own will and desires. As adults we probably reflect nostalgically on bicycle races, scraped knees, or beautifully brushed hair on a baby doll. There is probably not much, if any, nostalgia associated with staring at a television set (or other screen appropriate to your era). When we look back, the things we recall with fondness and desire for our children are experiences that are both active and connective. The world is not the same as it once was. The tendency is more toward idleness. We fill every moment of potential boredom with stimulation from electronic devices. Human connections are often virtual rather than real. We have to be intentional for our children to have “time to be a kid;” it does not happen naturally as it once did. With this three-day weekend, please take time to unplug and connect with one another. Create the space for your child to just be a kid.
Heartily Devoted,
Clay Scott, Ed.D.
Headmaster

Great Hearts Family Survey Opens Tuesday, February 18 |
Each year we ask parents for feedback on their academy and Great Hearts as a whole. We hope you will take the time to fill out this year’s survey. It should only take a few minutes, and we very much want to hear your perspective.
Look for an email on Tuesday, February 18, with the survey link. The survey will remain open through March 4. Our goal is to hear from as many families as possible to help us best understand what is going well and how we can improve. To that end, if we increase our participation percentage from last year, students will be rewarded with a "Jeans and Crazy Sock Day!"
Thank you in advance for taking the time to provide your feedback through the Family Survey.

School Messenger Communication
Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.
Email Communications
If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.
You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
