FROM PASTOR ANN

Bible Study:

 Hebrews 1:1-4; 2:5-12

1 Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. 3 He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

Hebrews 2:5-12

5 Now God did not subject the coming world, about which we are speaking, to angels. 6 But someone has testified somewhere,

“What are humans that you are mindful of them

or mortals that you care for them?

7 You have made them for a little while lower than the angels;

you have crowned them with glory and honor,

8 subjecting all things under their feet.”

Now in subjecting all things to them, God left nothing outside their control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to them, 9 but we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

10 It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father. For this reason Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, 12 saying,

“I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters;

in the midst of the congregation I will praise you."

Questions

Who do we consider "superior" in our society, and why?

Being created just below angels, what do you think is expected of us?

What role has Jesus taken on be becoming human? Why did Jesus take on that role?

What good news do you see in this text?

Blessings,

Pastor Ann

EVENTS & INFOS

Get ready to raise your steins and join the fun at New Day Lutheran Church's Oktoberfest celebration at Idaho Brewing Company! We're serving up a hearty potluck with delicious brats and hotdogs provided, but we need YOU to bring your favorite side dish to share! This is the perfect opportunity to whip up something scrumptious and share it with friends old and new. It’s all about coming together as a community, embracing our diverse backgrounds, and creating a warm, family-like atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. So, let’s make this festive event a feast of flavors and fellowship, where laughter and connection fill the air. Bring your dish and let's celebrate the joy of being together in faith and friendship!

Question: Could you tell me what is provided and what needs to be brought?

Provided: Hotdogs & brats, all condiments, buns, sauerkraut, bottled water

Beverages: are a cash bar of beer, wine, and soda, no credit! There is an ATM on site.

NEED: Sides and desserts

Some questions you may have:

  1. Who is/are the person(s) in charge? Any volunteers? You will be working with New Day & St. Luke's volunteers. We should join St. Luke's for serving, wait staff, and cleanup.
  2. Who do I make the check to? St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with Progressive Dinner or Food Basket in the memo line. We will then send the Food Basket of Idaho Falls one check.
  3. Is there a sign-up sheet? In the Parish Hall on a clipboard (two clipboards, one on either end of Coffee Bar).
  4. What if I bring soup? If you choose to bring soup, please bring a slow cooker or soup pot that we can keep hot on the stove. Too many auxiliary appliances will blow a fuse.
  5. Where can I purchase a ticket? We have actual tickets in the office and on the Coffee Bar or purchase from Pastor Ann or Theresa.
  6. How much are the tickets? Adults $10 / Children under 12 $1.
  7. How will we serve the soup? Servers will dish up in the kitchen, wait staff will deliver bowls of soup to seated guests using serving carts. Hopefully, this eliminates some of the germ spread. Salad will be the same method.
  8. What do we do with left overs? If you bring a dish make sure you take it home. We do not have the space to store used food in the kitchen.

I am sure those of you who have worked on this project before may have more experience and ideas of what works and doesn't work. This is another great attempt of bringing our community together and getting us out of the house to socialize with living breathing human beings. We are making new memories!

Luther Heights Bible Camp Capital Campaign

There are a lot of exciting things that take place at Luther Heights. Memories are made, connections are developed, and God is present, changing lives. As an owner congregation, we can help Luther Heights with the Capital Campaign to help make upgrades and help enhance the camp experience for those who attend. I'm excited about the opportunity we have to be part of this and am looking for someone to help by sharing updates with the congregation. It's that you? Are you willing to share your love for camp and keep us up to date? Please contact me (Pastor Ann) if you're interested or want to know more.

FELLOWSHIP SIGN-UPS

Thank you to those who have signed up! You made this easy!

Please email Theresa if you can either be in charge, bring a treat, or both on a Sunday. I will add you to this list. I am hoping we do not have to pass around a signup clipboard at church this way.

People IN CHARGE Signups:

There are extra plates and cups downstairs.

Leftovers of any kind, including milk, cheese, meat, and butter are not to be left in the refrigerator. The counters and serving areas need to be sanitized, and nothing left in the draining rack. If you brought it, take it home with you, please!

People to bring food:

Food can be a delightful expression of individuality and creativity! Whether you choose to bring a simple dish that warms the heart or an extravagant culinary creation, the important thing is that you feel inspired to share. There are no strict rules about what must be served; instead, you have the freedom to decide what resonates with you. The only rule is we can't save leftovers once they hit the counter.

Your contribution, no matter how big or small, is appreciated!
