What's Happening?

Pride Month? History Month? What's the Difference?

30 years ago (1994), Rodney Wilson, a Missouri high school teacher, wanted to be more inclusive in his curriculum and educate his students about the LGBTQ+ community's legacy. He believed that a month should be dedicated to the celebration of gay and lesbian history. Fast forward to 1995 when a resolution was passed by the General Assembly of the National Education Association to include LGBTQ+ History Month within a list of commemorative months. October was selected to coincide with National Coming Out Day (Oct. 11), which was already established, and the anniversary of the first march on Washington for gay and lesbian rights in 1979. But what about Pride Month? The difference is the emphasis. LGBTQ+ History Month's emphasis is on recognizing and honoring the history and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month, on the other hand, is a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and its history, culture, and achievements. Check out this article from The Advocate to learn more about the origin of LGBTQ+ History Month.

Companies are desperate for new talent to create what will become global supply chain 2.0. These are not jobs driving trucks.
