FTC RFI CALL TO ACTION

Call to Action – Respond to FTC Request for Information

On July 12, 2024, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a press release concerning franchise issues. Included in that release was the reopening of the franchise Request for Information that was previously open in 2023. This will allow franchisees to comment to the FTC on issues related to their franchise. The deadline is October 10, 2024, so act now and make your comments heard by submitting here.

If you fear retaliation for your comments, you are able to submit them anonymously. If you do submit anonymously, state that you are posting anonymously for fear of retaliation. While the actual Request for Information is long and detailed, just concentrate on your own brand and your issues. If your franchisor is controlling the supply chain and driving up the costs of your supplies, write details about that. If your franchisor is charging fees that were not disclosed, write about that. If your franchisor is not transparent about your marketing fund or only runs advertising that profits them, write about that. Whatever your biggest issues are, submit them.

Remember, the deadline is October 10, 2024. Don’t delay, submit your comments here.

Arizona Receives $8 Million To Expand Small-Business Support

Arizona is receiving almost $8 million from the federal government to expand state programs that support small businesses. “The SBA Office of Advocacy puts out the state numbers and Arizona is 99.5% small businesses, in the businesses in Arizona,” said Robert Theobald, the state’s Small Business Ombudsman and vice president of the Arizona Commerce Authority’s small-business services. “And [they] employ nearly half the employees in Arizona. And so small business is extremely important – not just here, but everywhere.” Theobald said the expansion efforts will focus on technical support, education and scaling opportunities, especially in rural areas. One benefitting program helps provide education for owners on the fundamentals of business planning.

LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Dear CFA Members,

As mentioned earlier in this issue of The Voice, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has reopened its Request for Information (RFI) on franchising and is now seeking additional input. This is an important opportunity for franchisees to share their experiences, challenges and insights directly with the FTC.

We strongly encourage you to respond to the RFI, as your voice is critical in shaping the future of franchising. The RFI will remain open until October 10, 2024, providing a window for you to submit your feedback.

For more detailed information, please refer to the dedicated section in this issue of The Voice, where we’ve provided resources to help guide your response. Additionally, the Coalition of Franchisee Associations (CFA) will be submitting a response. If your CFA member association would like to be included in this response anonymously, you have the option to do so.

Your participation is invaluable. Together, we can ensure that franchisee perspectives are well represented in this crucial process.

Sincerely,

John Motta
