Hurricane Helene Relief

Helene tore through western North Carolina, dumping extreme rainfall (up to 2 feet) and causing terrible flash flooding. Some parts of the area are in ruins. The death toll is 150 and climbing. NC especially got hit. Our Venture Church Network National President, who lives in South Carolina, said he was without power for 48 hours. If you would like to donate toward the relief efforts, here are some strong evangelical organizations. Samaritan's Purse and Baptists on Mission. They both are positively compassionate, assertive, and gospel-driven.

In 1994, Focus on the Family named October Pastor Appreciation Month. Since then, it has grown. It's a good thing. Here are some additional ideas to consider as you appreciate your pastors:

1. A handwritten letter.

2. A favorite meal. Pastors love to eat (maybe a little too much—but hey, you can bring that up on New Year’s Eve). Buy a gift card to their favorite restaurant. Cook their favorite meal.

3. Tickets. Give tickets to an event they would enjoy.

4. Services. This is an opportunity to do something they might never do for themselves: house cleaning, landscaping, tailoring, consultation, financial advisement, a massage, etc...

A happy pastor is an energized and effective pastor.

Christians Should Vote | A Breakpoint Article

“It’s our duty as citizens of the kingdom of God, to be the best citizens of the society we live in. To do that, we must vote.” -Chuck Colson

James is clear that if there is good that we can do, we should. To not do the good we can is sin. Christians should think of voting as a way of “lessening evil.” In the American context, the “lesser of two evils” approach tends to exaggerate the importance of the oval office. “Salvation,” Chuck Colson often said, “will never arrive in Air Force One.” Neither, for that matter, will the apocalypse. On the issues that matter most (such as life and family), state and local races and ballot initiatives are incredibly important, especially now. Voting to lessen evil recognizes these cultural realities.

Of course, the Office of President is important, but more so because of the 3,000-5,000 personnel—especially the unelected, rule-making department heads—that come with each administration. Read on.....click below.

Two Versions of Dodger Stadium

By JD Pearring, PCN Church Planting Director

The Major League Baseball Playoffs are upon us and I am reminded of an experience I had at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles a while back. I jumped at an opportunity to do something I hadn’t done before, or since: I attended Dodger Stadium two nights in a row. One night I sat in the lower section—field level box seats. The next night I sat much higher up in in the fourth level “Reserve” seats. It soon became apparent that there are actually two versions, two variations, two varieties of Dodger Stadium.

The lower level is predictable, unchanging and safe. It’s the same now as it was in 1962 when the Angels played there. The upper level is unpredictable, constantly changing and even a bit dangerous. Nothing is like it was in 1962.

CB Global Meetings in Japan

On September 14-16, over 30 leaders from Hong Kong, India, Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan, and the USA, gathered for CB Global's annual time of fellowship and encouragement in Sendai, Japan. The attendees met at Shiogama Bible Baptist Church to share updates from their ministries and pray together for their needs. They also got a chance to see some of the Sendai region's local beauty on a boat and garden tour. A highlight of the conference was the Monday afternoon celebration of CB Japan's 60th year in ministry!

These leaders represent over 2,000 churches, including 940 churches in India's association alone. Pray for all these churches that are in partnership with us as they boldly share the gospel in their world.

We are grateful to Pastor Yoshiya Kondo, Pastor Billy Petite, Pastor Yukimasa Otomo, and Shiogama Bible Baptist Church for their hard work in organizing and hosting this event! We plan to meet again in 2025 in Guam!

Job Opening: Full-Time Youth Pastor

Bethany Church is a community of believers who seek to glorify God and see people transformed into passionate disciples of Jesus. We seek to be biblically faithful and gospel driven in our approach to helping people become growing disciples of Jesus. After a season of transition during the pandemic and a new Lead Pastor, Bethany is a place where the people are eager to serve and excited about what God is doing among the congregation. We are looking for a Student Ministry Pastor to be a part of our team and help us transform the next generation into disciples of Jesus.
