Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 6 – 12, and World Mental Health Day is October 10.

This year, the theme for Mental Illness Awareness Week and World Mental Health Day is â€śMy Mental Health at Work.”

From October 6 – 12, NAMI will highlight how workplace cultures impact mental health. Their new resources offer employers practical tips on how to better support their staff. Meanwhile, employees can learn about the resources available to them and how to advocate for mental health support at work.

NEW 1N5 TRAINING AVAILABLE

Trusted Adult Training

Students often identify teachers, coaches, administrators, school counselors, school nurses, school psychologists, paraprofessionals, cafeteria staff, bus drivers, or crossing guards as trusted adults in their lives. All educators and school staff, in fact, are in a wonderful position to be a trusted adult due to the frequent contact and rapport they develop with students - but what does it actually mean to be a trusted adult?

1N5's newest workshop, Trusted Adult Training, is designed to educate adults on how to be a reliable and supportive figure for young people. This one-hour, interactive training focuses on what it means to be a trusted adult, discusses strategies for supporting youth mental health, introduces potential signs of a mental health challenge, and invites participants to practice their own self-care and boundary setting, including how to pull in additional resources in a crisis.

To learn more and to schedule a Trusted Adult Training for your school, please reach out to your 1N5 contact or email Programs@1N5.org.

1N5 and Mindpeace's Principal's Toolkit

This toolkit enables principals to disseminate wellness and brain health information to parents/caregivers and faculty. The toolkit is organized by topic and provides facts and statistics to help you learn more about brain health and begin educating yourself about mental health. Utilizing the various communication templates, you can share the information with parents/caregivers, students, and faculty through email or social media.

988 Banners - Free!

The 988 Initiative is a non-profit organization working to create conversations around mental health and suicide prevention. The hope is that when people see the 988 number, they will ask questions and have discussions with those around them, not only about this number but also about the topics of mental health and suicide prevention.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Ben Kimble Foundation, schools may order a banner from the 988 Initiative at no cost while supplies last.

**One per school, please.**

How Does Anxiety Affect Kids in School? - Child Mind Institute

Sometimes school anxiety is easy to identify — like when a child is feeling nervous before a test at school. Other times anxiety in the classroom can look like something else entirely — an upset stomach, disruptive or angry behavior, ADHD, or even a learning disorder. Click here to read more.

SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS

Our vision at 1N5 is for a community and world with mental wellness for all. We partner with local schools and universities to normalize mental health and break down the barriers preventing our youth from seeking help. Collaborating with administrators, counselors, and teachers on a needs assessment and climate survey, we create a customized long-term strategic plan for each school. We equip schools with the tools to implement mental health programming that becomes embedded into the school culture and impacts the entire school community.

For more information about the 1N5 School Partnership Program, including how to start a program relationship, please contact Sara Utecht, School Program Director, at sara_utecht@1n5.org.
