Founders Week & Catholic Schools Week
As we reflect upon January, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunities we had to come together and celebrate two important events in our school community: Founders Week and Catholic Schools Week. Both celebrations brought us closer as a Cougar family, deepen our faith, and help us honor the traditions that make Gross Catholic unique.
Founders Week was a special time for us to reflect on the life and legacy of Father William Joseph Chaminade, the founder of the Marianist order. This week was a powerful reminder of the values he instilled in our school community, such as faith, service, family spirit, and a commitment to education. Under the leadership of Kim Matzen, Founders Week was filled with meaningful activities, reflections, and celebrations that allowed us to honor the spirit of Father Chaminade. From celebrating mass together to sponsoring students from our sister school in Africa, Our Lady of Nazathareth, by selling baked goods and Chami-grams, we were reminded of the enduring impact of his vision and the Marianist Schools around the world.
This week is Catholic Schools Week, another momentous occasion which highlights the importance of Catholic education. This is an opportunity to celebrate not only the rich history of Catholic schooling but also the present vitality of our faith-based learning community. Under the coordination of Michele Sweetmon, Catholic Schools Week is an inspiring time of fellowship, reflection, and gratitude. The week is filled with a flurry of activities- senior retreat, rootbeer floats, games and contests, student lunch with their parents, and an all school mass with St. Bernadette. We are reminded of how our faith shapes every aspect of our lives and education. Catholic Schools Week is a time for students, parents, and faculty alike to come together in joy and thanksgiving for the blessing of Catholic education. "A good school provides education for the whole person. And a good Catholic School, over and above this, should help all students to become saints." Pope Benedict XVI
Both of these celebrations are a testament to the strength of our school and community. Thank you for sending your children to Gross Catholic where we value faith, tradition, and the deep connections we share with one another. We thank all the students, faculty, staff, and families who participated in these meaningful celebrations and look forward to continuing this journey of faith and learning together.
With Blessings-
