Preparing for the Holidays
To create a meaningful holiday experience for elderly loved ones, especially those with dementia, prioritize simplicity, inclusion, and safety. Host manageable celebrations, involve them in familiar activities, and ensure quiet spaces are available. Visits to care facilities should be thoughtful, incorporating personal touches and collaboration with staff. Caregivers should balance expectations, seek support, and practice self-care. The goal is to strengthen family bonds through compassion and connection during the holidays.

Celebrating Mary's Journey at
Cameron Heights
| |
Mary’s story begins in 1931 in picturesque Prince George, British Columbia, as the beloved only child of Ukrainian immigrant parents, Mary and Lawrence. Her mother played a key role in shaping her life, instilling values of resilience and determination.
In her early 20s, Mary married James, her late husband, and together they raised two children, Barb and Brandon. Barb remains a devoted visitor and support at Cameron Heights. Mary’s legacy extends to six grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who bring immense joy to her life.
With a strong personality and a collaborative spirit, Mary’s career spanned healthcare roles and managing a family business. Her entrepreneurial mindset still shines. A devout Catholic, she treasures attending Mass and Holy Communion. Her independent life was filled with baking, jam-making, swimming, gardening, and enjoying Maeve Binchy novels and classic films like The Odd Couple.
It’s a privilege to share in Mary’s journey alongside her loving family. We’re grateful for her presence and the joy she brings to our community!
