The IMSA Family

By Dr. Evan Glazer, President

This past week, I had a chance to bring my children to IMSA's Carnival. Not only do they love the games and food, but it's also an opportunity to help them understand that the IMSA community is like a family. They feel welcomed and appreciate getting to know our students as big brothers and big sisters.

Carnival is also a chance for IMSA students to bring their families and feel part of our community. I know that can be challenging for some families because of your distance or work schedules. However, you should know there are always people looking out for the welfare of our students, in and out of the classroom. While the RCs and CACs are often the primary point of contact, quite a few specialists provide counseling, coaching, accommodations, and intervention to support a diverse set of needs. We also have an advocate program where students can work closely with an IMSA staff member to help them navigate opportunities and challenges while they are here.

Our alumni share that the relationships formed at IMSA last a lifetime. I think that's because we nurture an environment that promotes camaraderie and support, not just among peers but also with the staff, who personalize the experience to make it memorable. We want you to know and feel your children are in good hands. Don't hesitate to contact your RCs and CACs for guidance on the different resources available at IMSA.

Student Spotlight

Xander Albertson '25 earned the rank of Eagle Scout this August after completing his project with Oswego Troup 31. For his project, Xander constructed benches and bookshelves for Mutual Ground, an Aurora-based nonprofit that supports families and women dealing with domestic violence. The ranking of Eagle Scout is the highest rank achieved by a Boy Scout, with only about 4% of Boy Scouts earning this recognition. This accomplishment represents Xander’s leadership ability and devotion to serving his community.

Tyler Rush '26 was selected to participate in a collegiate-level summer Neuroscience program at Syracuse University. Tyler spent the summer attending lectures, performing research, and working in the lab, where she was able to dissect a brain and study neuron manipulation through cockroach legs.

Nominate an IMSA Impact Maker

Do you know a faculty or staff member who has made an impact on your experience at IMSA, has inspired you, or helped you form interests for your future plans? Now is your chance to recognize them! We are looking for nominations to feature adults in our community who have made a positive difference. Help us find IMSA Impact Makers and celebrate their efforts.

To nominate someone, simply email officeofpublicaffairs@imsa.edu and share how this individual has made an impact. Let’s take this opportunity to highlight the dedication and hard work of our amazing faculty and staff!

Athletic Achievements

Thank you to our facilities department for all their hard work in our athletic spaces over the summer. We are now proudly showcasing the many years of IHSA achievements by IMSA athletes. Be sure to stop by the gym to see the display!

Day of Service Highlights

Over 350 students, staff, and IMSA parents participated in Day of Service performing over 1,065 hours of service. Students assisted the Fox Valley Park District with park and trail upkeep, cleaned the grounds of the historic Edith Farnsworth House, gardened and sorted donations at the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry, collected seeds for prairie restoration at Fermilab, and helped Maddie's Mitten March organize winter coat donations.

On campus, students also engaged in service projects including recycling old t-shirts into enrichment toys for shelter animals, writing gratitude cards for veterans and seniors, and crocheting sleeping mats for people experiencing homelessness. Make sure to check Helper Helper for more service opportunities!

Carnival Highlights

Thank you to those who generously donated time, funds, and supplies to help make Carnival a success!

Thank You, Avantor!

Thank you to Avantor for bringing our summer Integrated Science program to life! Their generous support of over $55,000 gave 40 rising ninth-grade students the chance to dive into biotechnology with hands-on projects, dynamic online learning, and an exciting on-campus experience. Together, we're igniting a passion for STEM and empowering the next generation of future innovators!

Download the LiveSafe App

LiveSafe allows IMSA to connect with students directly in cases of emergency situations such as severe weather, school closures, safety drills, and more. This safety tool also allows community members to report incidents and emergencies.

Other important safety and security resources are available including SafeWalk, a feature in which users can invite contacts to virtually follow their progress on a walk to ensure they reach their destination safely. This app is a primary means of relaying important communication to our IMSA community.

The LiveSafe app is available in the Apple Store or Google Play.
