🦆 Gender reveal confirms, George the duck is a boy!

As mentioned in last month's newsletter, when The Mirage was set to close, several people from the community started campaigning online to ensure that George, the duck, would be rehomed safely. Now that he's moved in at GNS, he has excellent healthcare provided by local veterinarians, and there was even a gender reveal party! See the Fox5Vegas news story.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to Kari Garcia (above-left) at tsp baking company for joining the party and sharing the delicious gender-reveal cookies!

And (above-right), special thanks also to Janna Hudson (left), City of Las Vegas Facility and Events Coordinator, and Jennifer Langford (right), GNS Director, for the big reveal!

George is not the only animal retired at GNS from casino life. We also provide forever homes for several retired Las Vegas show birds. Plan your visit to meet them!

🌭 George needs to eat - hotdogs and popcorn weren't cutting it!

Jennifer Langford (above-left) and George the duck (above-right), want to say THANK YOU to Carole from Resources for Rescues for their donation of waterfowl pellet. It is taking George a while to get used to a proper duck diet. He has been eating a lot of bread and other things given to him by the public.

Please don't give our wildlife bread and other junk foods. Feeding wildlife human food, like bread and popcorn, can actually harm their health. It doesn't provide the nutrients they need and can lead to malnutrition or other health issues. At GNS, we always stick to proper diets to keep our residents healthy and thriving!

🦜 Protectors of TULE SPRINGS presents: Re-examining the Gilcrease excavation—is there proof out there?

In the late 1980's, Bill Gilcrease was using a backhoe to dig into the rich sediments of a spring mound on land that is now the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary; uncovering large teeth and a tusk fragment in the process. Further excavation of the site in 1992 - 1993 led to fascinating discoveries — the full importance of which may be just being uncovered.

The director of GNS, Jennifer Langford, will be sharing exciting new evidence that was discovered by Dr. Amy Foulks, retired archeology professor, upon re-examination and re-evaluation of the excavation's artifacts.

Join us on September 10, 2024 at a general meeting from 6 - 8:00 PM at Sun City Aliante Clubhouse, 7390 N. Aliante Pkwy, North Las Vegas, NV 89084.

Also in this meeting, learn about Protectors' successes over the summer and upcoming fall events. Get updates from Ice Age Fossils State Park. Meet Emilisa, the park's new interpretive Ranger, and more.
