Distal esophageal spasm and gastroesophageal reflux disease: re-examining the association


  • Retrospective cohort analysis of patients with DES, N of 69.
  • 46.3% had objective evidence of reflux.
  • No differences between demographic variables, symptom profile, HRM metrics or PPI use between patients with or without GERD and DES.

Multidisciplinary team meetings improve survival in patients with esophageal cancer


  • Multidisciplinary team meetings (MDT) are recommended for patients with esophageal cancer, but does it affect clinical outcomes?
  • All patients with esophageal cancer in Sweden between 2006 and 2018 were grouped based on MDT or no MDT pathway
  • N of 6837, 20% (N of 1338) were not discussed at an MDT
  • MDT discussion was associated with improved survival (HR 0.72, 0.66-0.78) and median survival increased from 4.5 to 10.7 months.
