In the Spotlight

For years, artificial intelligence (AI) was one of two things: either in your Alexa or planning to take over the world. The reality is that AI can be a partner in your daily life. But where do we even start thinking about it that way? Join us as we explore what AI is, the different options and how to prompt them, how it fits our lives, the ethics behind AI, and answers to your questions. Title Review: Library Staff

"[Gaffigan] acknowledges parenting as being in a cult—a cult of people

who are sleep deprived and poorly dressed."

Reference Librarian Buffy McDonald recommends Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan.

If you are looking to add some humor to your life this holiday season, consider reading Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan. In short essays, this well-respected comedian shares his experiences as a parent as he goes through the process of raising five small children in a two-bedroom apartment in New York City.

It is a fun read even if you are not a parent. And, if you are a parent, you may recognize some of the humor from your own experiences. One of the book’s greatest charms is its authenticity and Gaffigan’s ability to find humor in the ordinary experiences of being a parent.

Whether it is a humorous observation about potty training to the craziness of trying to travel with a baby and several small children in New York City. Or, something as simple as having one thing to do that day and still not having enough time to get it done.

Along with the admission that powerlessness is the defining characteristic of fatherhood, he acknowledges parenting as being in a cult—a cult of people who are sleep deprived and poorly dressed...

Book Beat: Student Book Review

Hi, my name is Advik. I love to read, write, bike, swim, and watch TV. For my Book Beat review, I read Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan.

Throne of Fire, the second book in the Kane Chronicles, is a compelling blend of Egyptian mythology and modern-day action. This book follows Sadie and Carter Kane in their continued fights against the forces of Chaos.

Sadie and Carter are forced to prevent the end of the world in a very timely manner after being tormented by reoccurring dreams and messages that hint at Apophis’ approaching return.

The sun god Ra’s power is the only thing that can stop Apophis, the Lord of Chaos, from rising from his eons-long confinement. The two siblings, who set out on a dangerous adventure, must find the three missing pieces of the Book of Ra, which hold the secret to waking him.

They travel the world on this mission, facing challenging opponents and formidable allies. Sadie and Carter discover more about their magical skills and family history as they travel down this difficult path...
