Youth Mayor will give children the chance to learn about basic political and campaigning skills in a fun and engaging way while allowing them to interact with their community. Applications are due on Friday, September 6th.

Elections will be held during the Step Up for Kids event on October 5th. Candidates for Strong Start Youth Mayor will be notified by September 13th and must attend a virtual orientation on September 19th from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

2024 National Summer Learning Summit

Summer Learning Summit is the only conference exclusively focused on summer learning. The conference will provide attendees insights and solutions into the evolution of the field - from closing academic achievement gaps to now addressing opportunity gaps and fostering social-emotional learning.

"Good" Jobs in the OST field



The National Afterschool Association (NAA) introduces a structure for OST Job Quality Standards (JQS) to enhance workforce development and stability for "good jobs" in the field. The JQS Usage Guide & Assessment tool offers actionable steps for improving job quality.

Team Up to Support a Thriving Afterschool

The Afterschool Alliance and the National Afterschool Association (NAA) teamed up to strengthen the afterschool and summer field workforce.



Initiatives so far include:

• Hosting the Workforce Summit at the 2024 NAA Convention
• Releasing the national OST Job Quality Standards
• Launching a database of strategies for a thriving OST workforce
• Issuing new policy recommendations for the Afterschool for All Challenge

The National Afterschool Association (NAA) is has launched "Ask Afterschool," a new monthly LinkedIn conversation designed to foster community and professional growth. Each month, a member-submitted question will spark insightful discussions and knowledge-sharing among peers. Submit a question via the webform and engage with experts and colleagues on best practices, innovative ideas, and strategies.
