THE MID-WEEK BUZZ

Happy Thursday Church!

We hope your mid-week is looking really good!

Many thanks to Rev. Dr. Nerice Kaufman for being with us last Sunday. We are grateful. To Brandon, Jasmine and our amazing band, thank you for leading us in song, as this is one of the ways we praise God. To all of you online and in the sanctuary, your presence is felt, and is an integral part of our worship as a community. You are the heart of the church.

We ask you to continue to keep Pastor Greg, Freddie and their family in your prayers. While we miss them, we know this time of treatment completion, and the beginning of recovery and healing is what is most important.

Please direct any prayer requests to the church office, Office1@ccpucc.org. Vicki Holland will receive those requests and communicate with you. If you have Pastoral care needs, please let us know using Office1@ccpucc.org, or call the church office at 858-748-3304.

We will continue to worship as always at 9:15 Sunday morning, welcoming some new faces, and some familiar, as we continue to glorify God, and be grateful for all the gifts and love we have been given.

In 7 words for worship (pt. 3)

In the Hebrew language there a number of words that are often translated as worship. I thought maybe we’d look at each of these over the next month or two. So far we’ve looked at “hallel” where we get the word “hallelujah.” and “yadah” lifting one’s hands." This week our word is “Towdah.” TOWDAH comes from the same principal root word as yadah, but is used more specifically. Towdah literally means, "an extension of the hand in adoration, avowal, or acceptance." By way of application, it is apparent in the Psalms and elsewhere that it is used for thanking God for "things not yet received" as well as things already at hand. This word is often translated as thanksgiving which is a great way to praise God

I think of this as a posture of surrender and thanks instead of a posture of celebration. In both surrender and celebration but we lift our hands, but here it is to recognize our need for God or to thank God as our great caretaker or parent. It’s that moment in that tough situation when we say, I can’t do it anymore God, you’re the only one that can handle this. I give my all to you because you’ve always taken care of me.

Psalm 50:14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving (towdah), and pay your vows to the Most High..

Psalm 50:23 Whoever offers praise (towdah) glorifies Me: and to them that order their conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.

Books & More

We will be reading Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus starting on Tuesday, August 27.

This novel is laugh-out-loud funny, shrewdly observant, and studded with a dazzling cast of supporting characters, Lessons in Chemistry is as original and vibrant as its protagonist-Meet Elizabeth Zott: “a gifted research chemist, absurdly self-assured and immune to social convention” and is not your average woman. In fact, she would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman.

#1 GLOBAL BESTSELLER AND A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: The New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, Oprah Daily, Entertainment Weekly, and Newsweek.

Books and More meets every Tuesday at 10:00am in the Fireside Room.

All are welcome to join us.
