Critical Issues with Medicaid and Pathways Affecting Our Seniors

We want to bring to your attention some concerning developments that are impacting our senior community. Recently, significant issues have arisen regarding the Indiana Medicaid waiver and the Pathways program, leading to challenges for many of our seniors.

According to a report from Mirror Indy, seniors are suffering on lengthy waitlists for the Indiana Medicaid waiver. This delay prevents them from accessing the vital care and services they need to maintain their quality of life. The long wait times are leaving many without the support they require, creating stress and uncertainty for both seniors and their families.

Additionally, as highlighted by the Indiana Capital Chronicle, the transition of Medicaid services has resulted in some adult day attendees losing their transportation services. This disruption is particularly troubling as reliable transportation is crucial for seniors to attend day programs, receive medical care, and stay connected with their community.

These issues underscore the urgent need for improvements in our state’s Medicaid and Pathways programs to ensure that our seniors can access the care and services they deserve without unnecessary delays or disruptions.

We encourage our community to stay informed about these developments and to advocate for the needs of our seniors. Together, we can work towards solutions that better serve our aging population.

7 Travel Tips for Caregivers from Alzheimer's Foundation of America

One last summer trip on Labor Day weekend can mean dealing with heavy traffic and packed airports, challenges which become even greater if you’re traveling with someone who has dementia. Whether it’s a quick road trip or flying far away, here's how to help someone with dementia feel more comfortable and relaxed while traveling.

7 Travel Tips for Caregivers:

1. Simplify the itinerary. Keep the travel schedule simple. Avoid tight connections or multiple stops if possible. Resist the urge to plan a trip with too many sights, destinations, and attractions.

2. Plan around the person’s abilities and routine. Incorporate the person, their abilities, and needs into the arrangements. Small changes can feel overwhelming and stressful to someone with dementia, so to the greatest extent possible, preserve the person’s routine. Learn more....
