Western Nevada County and Auburn/Lake of the Pines delivery day has switched to Wednesdays for our winter deliveries.

You will now receive your newsletter on Tuesdays, going forward.

For meal planning purposes, we do put projected box contents on our webpage HERE

every Friday afternoon before the delivery week.

Dear Farm Friends,

As the seasons shift, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for our CSA members. Your support has been the foundation of our farm’s success, and we’re deeply thankful for your commitment to local, organic farming.

This year, your participation has done so much more than fill your tables with fresh produce—it has sustained local jobs, kept our fields flourishing, and allowed us to continue to care for the land. With winter fast approaching, your ongoing support is more crucial than ever.

Running a successful farm in the winter comes with unique challenges and opportunities. By maintaining your CSA subscription through the colder months, you’re ensuring that our dedicated farmers remain employed year-round. In winter, there’s plenty of work to do on the farm, from maintaining the soils and repairing equipment to preparing the fields and greenhouse for the future harvests. Subscribing to the CSA supports ensures that the farmers who grow your food can stay employed during the off-season.

What can you look forward to this winter? There still are plenty late fall and winter delights—sweet carrots, hearty squash, vibrant kale, tender spinach, earthy root vegetables, and so much more. These winter crops not only nourish the body but also connect us to the rhythms of the season, reminding us of our connection with nature.

At Mountain Bounty Farm, each farmer pours their heart into this work. Supporting the CSA ensures we can keep doing what we love—growing food for you.

Thank you for being part of the Mountain Bounty family.

-Becky and the Mountain Bounty Crew

Fruit Share CSA

Box contents:

  • Fuyu Persimmons (Chiechi Farm)
  • Either Granny Smith or Ashmead's Kernel Apples (Cuyama Orchards)
  • Kiwifruit (Sunrise Kiwi)
  • Hass Avocados (Las Palmalitas)
  • Pomegranate (Frog Hollow Farm)

Ashmead's Kernel Apple:

Ashmead's Kernel is a centuries-old heirloom apple cherished by true apple connoisseurs. You may notice a white powder on the surface of these apples. This is organic Kaolin clay, widely used in organic fruit production to prevent sunburn. You can easily clean it off by rubbing the apple or rinsing it under water. The brown, rough texture you see on the skin is called "russeting," a natural feature of certain heirloom varieties like this one. Beneath the skin, you’ll find dense, sweet-tart flesh.

Unlike modern apples, which sometimes sacrifice flavor for appearance, heirloom varieties retain these original traits. Its russeted skin may not be smooth and glossy like modern varieties, but beneath it lies an exceptional flavor. The flesh is crisp, dense, and finishes with a tartness reminiscent of pippins.
