Message from Principal Wilson

Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year! This summer, staff engaged in a jam-packed Orientation Program to ensure we were ready to welcome students back. Today, we see great enthusiasm in the halls and are grateful that we get to see our students’ faces and receive their hugs and high-fives. We will never take that for granted again!

Our students are dreaming big about their futures and sharing their goals for the school year during morning circles. We could not be prouder of their commitment to academically and behaviorally grow! Please enjoy our Fall Newsletter and see the fun and progress we’ve made so far this school year.

Classroom Engagement

Ensuring our students are fully engaged in the learning process means using hands-on learning activities. Ms. Say’s Middle School class learned about photosynthesis by observing freshly picked leaves in a shallow dish of water with a small pebble on each leaf. By putting it in direct sunlight, students could observe the tiny bubbles forming on the leaf’s surface, representing oxygen production through photosynthesis. Students could actually SEE oxygen being released!

Ms. Wheeler’s Middle School class learned about density by experimenting with different liquids. Density is one of the foundational concepts of science and helps students understand why boats float and rocks sink. By building a tower using liquids with different densities, students were able to see how this concept LOOKS firsthand.

Testing Hall of Fame

Testing in school is often associated with a feeling of dread and anxiety - so why not change up our mindset and celebrate this time of year by inducting students into the Hall of Fame for their accomplishments during testing.

Ms. Steiner visited each classroom to award students with “The Super Star Test Taker” certificates. The students in Ms. Buford’s Elementary Classroom not only received their certificates but also proudly wore medals of honor celebrating their positive test-taking behaviors.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and at The Foundation Schools we go big and PINK! Students participated in educational activities to raise breast cancer awareness while practicing empathy for those diagnosed with breast cancer. Students participated in “THINK PINK” day by wearing their favorite pink outfit, standing strong against the breast cancer fight. Staff joined the fun and wore their craziest pink outfits for crazy pink day!

Red Ribbon Week

The Foundation Schools works hard to promote a healthy learning environment that is alcohol, tobacco, and drug-free by emphasizing education and prevention services in a fun way. This year, students celebrated Red Ribbon Week from October 23rd - 25th with educational and inspirational activities to promote a substance-free lifestyle!

Message from Principal Young

Hello, all Foundation families and supporters! We are off to a great start for the 2024-2025 school year. This year, we are focusing on incorporating Restorative Approaches into our school community to strengthen positive relationships that promote social change. Restorative circles, mediations, and mentoring groups will be led by students and staff this year. The goal is to have students hold each other accountable for their actions and motivate them to think about how their actions impact others. This will further reinforce our school’s core values of TWIRL (teamwork, work ethic, integrity, respect, and leadership).

TWIRL

Our students are busy practicing essential teamwork and work ethic skills this semester. To start off the school year, students designed posters showcasing inspirational work ethic quotes that relate to their lives. Students can see them hung up in the hallway and classrooms, using them for motivation during the day. This quarter, our PE Department is running our intramural flag football team where students participate based on their positive behavior performance. Weekly practices reinforce teamwork and work ethic among our students who practice good sportsmanship and collaboration.

Wednesday student clubs are another great way to instill our core values. During this time, students are learning how to prepare food in Cooking Club, edit video content in Technology Club, and execute strategy through play in Game Club.

The impact is incredible - as of September, 30 out of 44 students have reached their behavior goals, showing consistent attendancepassing grades, and minimal behavior infractions.

First Quarter Events

We had a very successful back-to-school night on September 18th where students and families toured the school and met the staff. Building relationships with our students and their families is a proven method to promote student success! Another exciting program that started in the first quarter is the on-site barbering internship, where students participate in a five-week program under the supervision of a master barber to learn how to cut hair and the pathway to licensure. This connection will support student’s transition goals and link them with job opportunities after graduation.
