Lali's Story - CAC's MDT Model in Action

By Wendy Diaz, Lead Forensic Interviewer

Earlier this year, an 11-year-old child (Lali*) came to CAC to talk about the abuse that she experienced by her grandpa. During her interview, Lali disclosed what had happened and shared with me (the Forensic Interviewer) things she hadn’t told anyone else before. Lali’s sisters were also interviewed that day, but they did not disclose any abuse during their interviews.

However, two months later, the detective assigned to the case received a call from the family that there were new disclosures of abuse by the siblings which involved the same grandpa.

The detective, as the law enforcement member of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) for Lali's case, called CAC to discuss the new developments and what would be best for the children. The detective stated that the other sisters had made a disclosure about the same offender (grandpa). The MDT agreed that a follow-up interview should be conducted for all children involved.

Introducing CAC Board Member Sarah Lilly

"Giving back to my community and country has always been a driver in my life, but once I had my own children there was a fierce desire to not only protect and support my children but all children," new CAC Board Member Sarah Lilly explained.

"My boys showed me how full of love and wonder a child's heart can be, and it is our responsibility and privilege to protect, nurture and support all children. Joining the CAC and supporting the critical work they do is an absolute honor."

Sarah joined the board in October and is a member of the Strategic Planning committee. She currently works as a Strategy and Innovation Marketing Manager for Kimberly Clark. A Glenview resident, Sarah served five years in the U.S. Air Force as a Nuclear Combat Commander. CAC is excited to welcome Sarah to the board.

This #GivingTuesday you can partner with CAC to help young survivors of violence live safer, healthier lives. With the Center for Disease Control reporting that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys in the U.S. will experience some form of child abuse, the odds are - everybody knows somebody.

So who do you know? And how can we help?

Visit our Partner with CAC page to see how you can advocate for CAC and let more people know about our work in the community with young survivors. Together we can make a difference!

Thank You to Rotary Volunteers

On October 12, the dedicated volunteers from the Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Rotary Club put CAC's healing garden to bed for the year. Rotarian Eileen Higginbotham organized the team of mighty Butterfly Buddies, which included Rotarians Mary, Jeanne, Jeff, Jack, Jim and Bonnie. In addition, they were joined by Fishing Well students Marisol and Ayuna and their own “Garden Granny” Fern.

CAC is so grateful for all of the volunteers who work throughout the year to tend to this place of peace and healing in our Hoffman Estates yard. Yours is a gift that keeps growing!
