Summary Report on the

2024 Virginia Annual Conference

Karen Junker, Lay Leader at Centenary United Methodist Church

Dear Centenary Family,

I was honored to attend the 2024 Virginia Annual Conference as Centenary’s lay delegate, held June 20 - 22, 2024. The conference theme was “A Conference in Three Movements” with Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson, as the officiating bishop.

This theme emerged from the belief that there are three principal movements of the Holy Spirit taking place in the present era of the church:

  1. The theological movement from prevenient grace to sanctification. This is the movement of the Holy Spirit in the human heart.
  2. The historical movement of Methodism captured in our past, lived in our present, and pointed toward our future. This is the movement of the Holy Spirit in the church.
  3. The missional movement from gathered spaces into all the world. This is the movement of the Holy Spirit in community.

Housing Families First Donations

For the month of July, the Serving team invites you to help Housing Families First. If you came to the mission fair you may have stopped at their table. HFF is located at the Hilliard House on Nine Mile Road. Hilliard House is a short-term shelter for up to 40 children and adults who are on their way to a permanent home but need a safe and supportive stopover. Here, families experiencing homelessness have the chance to work with supportive staff for a month or so while they regroup, regain control over their lives, and plan their path to housing stability.

Collection bins will be located in the hallway leading to the sanctuary. Here is a link to their current needs. For more information contact the church office.

Mission

Our mission is to change the world through love.

To acknowledge God’s love is, for each of us, a life-changing event.

As followers of Jesus, we share God’s love for all people, and work together to make our world a better place, one life at a time.
