At Longmont Humane Society, our mission extends beyond sheltering animals; we strive to create a positive impact within our community by providing comprehensive services for pets and pet lovers in Longmont and the surrounding areas. Every year, we support 4,000 animals in need of love and care while they await new families or reunions with their own. Behind the scenes, our dedicated teams work tirelessly to ensure these animals receive the best care possible.
A cornerstone of our animal support services is our transformative Training and Behavior Modification Department (TBMD). This highly-trained team evaluates every dog that enters our adoption program, creating personalized plans that include in-depth assessments, expert training for socialization and calmness, and preparation for successful adoptions. Beyond this, we offer post-adoption guidance and training classes to ensure long-lasting bonds between pets and their new families.
The impact of our TBMD is profound: we reduce euthanasia rates, increase adoptions, and strengthen the bonds between animals and their people. Our success has drawn requests for transfers from shelters nationwide. However, our ability to help more dogs is limited by a two-year waitlist due to capacity constraints.
The cost of maintaining such a program is high, and most shelters cannot afford it. However, the benefits are undeniable – since implementing our TBMD team, our ability to save dogs has increased by over 20%, and our save rate (or live release rate) is now over 98%.
