I can NOT believe that we are celebrating the store's 35th Anniversary this month. I feel so privileged to be part of this legacy that Patti and Norman began long ago. I am so grateful to work side-by-side with these humans I call family. We really take reading and serving our community very seriously, and I am so proud of them. I feel like I am gushing, but it needs to be said: I would really be nothing if not for them.
I read Quit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a Culture Obsessed with Alcohol, by Holly Whitaker. Having stopped drinking for almost a third of a year, one really does see how deep it goes. Every commercial, every advertisement. All events lure us in with drink tickets. Movies are always surrounded by alcohol, or their characters are always entwined with it. It is so everywhere, and I am so glad I am not the only one on this journey. I have met so many nice people on this ride.
I also read Midnight in Soap Lake, by Matthew Sullivan. He is a local author, and it was an advanced read. His book will be out in April, and we hope to host him for the launch. The book was so good. A good mystery, it follows a woman who is trying to figure out what happened to a murdered woman. This book is based on a real place in Washington, and the author lived there.
I listened to Immortal Dark, by Tigest Girma; this was a very different perspective of a vampire/human connection. I really appreciated it. It read a little young and sometimes irritated me a little bit, but overall it was a very good story. I also listened to So Thirsty, by Rachel Harrison. It was very campy, and it was very fun. I will say this one was a lot sexy, like rated R. Follows two friends who go away for a weekend, and it turns out that they get themselves into some trouble. Not too serious and just fun. I attempted to listen to The Merriest Misters, by Timothy Janovsky. I got 20% in and I had to stop. This book felt like it was stealing every holiday theme from every holiday movie out there. I just could not get on board.
This month, I hope to read Orbital, by Samantha Harvey. This book follows 6 astronauts on a space mission for one full day looking back at Earth. Very exciting. I am so intrigued. I hope to listen to How Does That Make You Feel, Magda Eklund? by Anna Montague. I also think I want to listen to Framed, by John Grisham. Based on a true story.
Happy Reading and Stay Safe!
