From the Director
Madrone Trail Community,
Thank you everyone who showed up last Saturday for our fall stewardship day. It is truly impressive how much work can be done by a dedicated group of volunteers. I hope everyone enjoys the campus beautification projects, with many more to come. We are still in need of some help with hauling metal and wood to a recycling station. If anyone is available, please reach out to me when you can.
Congratulations to Heidi Martin who was awarded the Rogue Credit Union / KOOL FM Teacher of the Week! It was a well-deserved recognition, as Ms. Martin does amazing work at Madrone Trail.
I hope everybody has a nice weekend,
Andy Bracco
Director

Jog-a-thon Update
We have received a little over $16,800 in pledges so far! We have collected around $10,500 of those pledges already. This is an amazing total for the first week after the Jog-a-thon! All forms that were turned in last week and early this week have been returned for collection. If you haven't turned in your pledge sheet yet, it's not too late! Get it to Ms. Cori or your child's class teacher whenever you can.
Reminder: Jog-a-thon pledges can be paid in cash, checks made out to MTPCS, or paid online through the link on our website, madronetrail.org/donate (PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, credit/debit cards accepted) or by using the QR Code on the Jog-a-thon pledge form. If you are using the online payment option or writing a check you can pay for more than one student in a single transaction/check, just include all jogger's names and the amount going to each child if not split evenly.
If you have any questions or having any difficulty with the link, please contact Ms. Cori, cori.royer@madronetrail.org. Thanks for supporting our school!

Important Update - Immediate Menu Changes!
Well what a fun week! On Thursday morning, while Chef Evan was beginning to cook quesadillas, the oven decided it was time to retire and the electricals caught on fire. Luckily, it was quickly extinguished and the trusty griddle still served its purpose of toasting the breakfast quesadillas to crispy, gooey perfection. The oven is toast, however… no pun intended. Fortunately, we were already in the process of purchasing a new oven. While we wait for the new oven to arrive, however, we will have to make some changes to our menu effective next week.
The main changes for lunch: We will serve chicken & cheese quesadillas on Tuesday (or plain cheese as the vegetarian option) instead of taco bowls. There will also be no sausages or tofu dogs on Wednesday and instead we will have an extra soup special. Otherwise, our daily specials and sandwiches as well as our breakfast menu will remain the same.
As always, our salad bar will be stocked full of colorful, fresh veggies!
Specials – October 28-31
Sandwich: Brie & Blackberry Jam on Croissant Bread (vegetarian)
Soup (all week): Homemade Cream of Mushroom
Soup (Wednesday only): Cheeseburger Soup
A Note About Soup & Sandwich Specials
Sandwich and soup specials each week are “while supplies last." They often feature items that are more costly or we don’t stock on a regular basis.
GENERAL PROGRAM INFO
If you missed the last updates with general information about the program, including snack policy and EZ app, please see the Friday Update from August 23.

From the Athletic Director
Boys’ Basketball
Boys’ Basketball is under way. I was able to stop by practice for a few minutes yesterday. It was great to see how hard the boys were working and all the, what I call, “sweat equity” in the gym. Keep it up. Thanks to our coaches, Tim Stewart and Mark Stegall. Coaching a school sport is a huge time commitment.
Exciting News: We had enough boys sign up to have a JV and a Varsity team. That is awesome!
Home games are at Rogue X
Mondays: JV plays at 4:30, Varsity 5:30
Wednesdays: Varsity 4:30, JV 5:30
Game Schedule
Monday 11/4 Home vs RVA
Wednesday 11/6 Home vs Applegate
Tuesday 11/12 @ Sacred Heart
Wednesday 11/13 @ The Valley School
Monday 11/18 Home vs. Ruch
Wednesday 11/20 @ Rogue Valley Adventist
Monday 12/2 @ Applegate
Wednesday 12/4 Home vs. Sacred Heart
Monday 12/9 Home vs. The Valley School
Wednesday 12/11 @ Ruch
Come support your Dragons when you are able!

Lost & Found
This current batch of last & found will be gone after Thursday, October 31. Ms. Sherrie also has quite a bit of jewelry and keys, so check with her if you lost something small.
We also have a clothing closet now available if any family is in need of a coat or any clothing you can ask Ms. Sherrie to look through the clothes. We could also use more hangers if anyone has extras they'd like to donate.

Cans & Bottles Fundraiser
Thank you to all who have donated their cans and bottles to the 8th grade class so far!!! BottleDrop Give will match 20% of funds raised through Blue Bags and online donations from Green Bag accounts between November 15 – December 2, so if you have some cans to donate this will be the time to drop off. Looking Towards Halloween
We will be celebrating Halloween at school on Thursday, October 31. At Madrone Trail, this means we will have a parade of costumes after lunch and then individual class celebrations afterwards. Please do not send your child in their costume to school, or apply elaborate makeup they will have to wear all day as it is very distracting for the first part of the day. Kindergarten classes will be doing their own celebrations, look for specifics in your class emails from Miss Josclyn and Miss Gina.
As you look to purchase or make your child's Halloween costume this year please observe our school guidelines surrounding the Halloween costumes that they wear at school. If students would like to dress up in something that is outside these guidelines, we encourage them to do that on Halloween night instead of at school.
- Bring your costume to change into before the parade. Parade will be at 1:30 pm on the track.
- Homemade costumes are encouraged.
- Costumes must follow the school dress code.
- Keep face paint, make-up, and hair simple (you’re going to be applying it all at school.)
- You must be able to sit, walk, hear, and see with your costume on (face masks can only be worn during the parade)
- No costumes that are gory/scary.
- No prop weapons.

The Importance of Warmth
Now that the weather is starting to turn, we ask that during these cold months to come that children are sent to school with adequate layers to protect them from all the types of weather we see in the Rogue Valley. We are outside for recess and games class rain or shine. We often hear children say "but I'm not cold" when asked to wear long sleeves and jackets at recess. Also, shorts are not appropriate in below freezing weather. Please help us out and insist your child wear warm layers, even if they disagree. Thanks!
The article below was written by Jessica Porto, from the Waldorf School of Bend's website:
During early childhood, children grow faster than at any other time in their lives. Parents often feel as though they need to buy the next size of clothes and shoes every few months! During this time, a child's body not only grows bigger and stronger, but their organs are fine tuning their development and functioning. The same kinds of forces which make this growth and development possible are also the ones children need to keep their body's temperature at homeostasis. Young children also lose heat faster than adults, especially through the tops of their heads, and can become chilled quickly if they are not wearing enough clothing and a hat during the colder months. When children are not dressed adequately, the forces for growing and learning are compromised and instead are used to keep them warm. Young children often cannot tell whether they are too cold or too hot, and need loving adults to ensure their body temperature is at a healthy level. Wearing layers of breathable natural fiber clothing inside and waterproof, warm gear for outside play is the best way for a child to maintain their warmth.
