Reflections from the Principal
There are so many wonderful activities happening as we prepare for Christmas—our Christmas Concert, Santa Workshop, Guadalupe Mass, and so much more. While these events are full of joy and community, one tradition that truly touches my heart is the “Keep Christ in Christmas” poster contest, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.
This contest invites our students to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas—celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ—and to express this sacred message through their artwork. So far, 78 posters have been created, each one a unique and personal expression of faith, love, and creativity. These will be judged this Sunday morning between masses, and I know their messages will be both inspiring and heartwarming.
As Catholics, Christmas is more than a festive holiday; it is a celebration of God’s incredible gift to the world—the incarnation of His Son, Jesus Christ. This holy season reminds us of the humility of the manger, the joy of the shepherds, and the guiding light of the star that brought the wise men to Bethlehem. It is a time to focus on the love of God made flesh and to share that love with one another through acts of kindness, generosity, and faith.
The “Keep Christ in Christmas” posters offer our students an opportunity to visually represent these sacred truths. By creating art that highlights the Nativity, the Holy Family, or other elements of the Christmas story, they are connecting to the deeper meaning of our faith and proclaiming the good news of Christ’s birth in a powerful and tangible way.
I encourage you to take a moment this Sunday to view these beautiful posters, which will be displayed in the hallway leading to the Art Room. As you admire the creativity and thoughtfulness of our students, I invite you to reflect on how you and your family can “Keep Christ in Christmas” this year. And don’t forget to vote for your favorite poster—your participation in this tradition helps affirm the importance of keeping our Catholic faith at the center of this joyful season.
May we all be reminded that, amid the hustle and bustle of these weeks, the heart of Christmas is Christ Himself—the source of all hope, peace, and love.

As a Reminder to Parents & Students to Focus on Academics
This is a direct excerpt from the School HandBook.
Academic Probation
It is imperative that our students apply themselves fully to their studies. We recognize that student achievement must be fostered and encouraged. Therefore, a student who is scholastically capable but is failing in any subject (grade of D or F) will be placed on academic probation. The student is then required to attend weekly Homework Club after school to complete missing assignments. In-school activities may be forfeited, at the discretion of the principal.
Extracurricular Eligibility
If a student is earning a grade of D or F in any classes, and is on academic probation, he/she will not be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities (i.e. athletics, band, choir, clubs) until academic expectations are met.

Classroom Auction Baskets: A Gala Tradition
As we prepare for our highly anticipated Annual Gala & Fundraiser Auction, we’re excited to share how each classroom will play a key role in contributing to the event’s success. Classroom baskets are a beloved tradition, adding a unique touch to our auction while showcasing the creativity and generosity of our St. Pius X community. Here's a friendly reminder about how it all works this year:
Pre3 – 3rd Grade: Art Projects + Mini Baskets
What’s Happening?
Each class in these grades will create a special art project to be auctioned at the Gala. The remaining funds collected will go toward creating a small basket, adding variety and charm to our auction lineup.
How Can You Help?
A suggested donation of $5-10 per family is requested to cover the cost of materials and contribute to the small basket. This approach helps reduce the burden on teachers while ensuring our youngest Knights have a meaningful and creative contribution.
4th – 8th Grade: Classroom Baskets
What’s Happening?
These grades will focus on creating larger themed baskets for the Gala, adding excitement and variety to the event. Each basket will reflect the class's collective effort and creativity.
How Can You Help?
A suggested donation of $20 per family ensures we can purchase all necessary items to create a standout basket for the auction.
Why the $20 Suggested Donation?
The goal of this approach is to simplify the process for parents and teachers while maintaining the quality and variety of items at the Gala. For families, it means less time spent shopping for specific items, and for teachers, it means less stress in coordinating and organizing donations.
What If I Can’t Contribute the $20?
We understand that everyone’s situation is different. Whether through the suggested donation or another form of contribution, we appreciate your support in helping make your class’s basket a success. One way or another, each class will create a basket or project for the Gala.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support of the St. Pius X community. Your participation helps make the Gala a special night for all and an incredible fundraiser for our school. Let’s work together to make this year’s baskets the best yet! Thank you if you have already brought a donation in, and if you have not, please have your student drop it to their teacher in an envelope with their name on it by Friday, December 20.
If you have any questions, email the Gala Committee at: gala@stpiuslombard.org

Children's Mass Volunteers Needed
Periodically throughout the year, Religious Education students and St. Pius X School students serve as Lectors, Gift Bearers and Readers of the Prayer of the Faithful (petitions). During these Masses, the homily is tailored for children and families.
Please sign up your children to help in a role of your choice for the appropriate Mass. After you've signed them up and as we get closer to the date of the Mass, you will be emailed with more detailed instructions according to the role you've chosen for your child. In addition to receiving these instructions, we also ask that you arrive 30 minutes before the Mass so that your child has the opportunity to rehearse.
