Celebration of Women's Ordination to the Priesthood

Friday, July 26, 2024 | St. Mark's Cathedral

Sunday, July 28, 2024 | St. David's

All Minnesota Episcopalians are invited to join in a day of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the ordination of women in the Episcopal Church. Led by a cohort of women clergy from around the diocese, this joyful day will include story-sharing, a screening of The Philadelphia Eleven and panel discussion, potluck dinner on the lawn of St. Mark's Cathedral, the premiere of a brand-new, Minnesota-specific documentary about how the ordination of women to the priesthood has shaped the diocese in the last fifty years--and for the next fifty--and a concluding Eucharist. History displays and videos will be available for viewing during the festivities.

Schedule for Friday, July 26 at St. Mark's Cathedral:

3:00pm: Screening of The Philadelphia Eleven: Courage and Change

4:30pm: Panel Discussion

5:00pm: Potluck Supper

6:30pm: Premiere of a new documentary about women's ordination in Minnesota (please note the time change!)

7:00pm: Women’s Ordination Anniversary Eucharist: The Right Reverend Mariann Budde, preaching

At St. David's, we will continue the celebration of the anniversary of women's ordination at our 8:00 and 9:30 services of Holy Eucharist on July 28th. The Rev. Lindsay Freeman will preach, the Rev. Katherine Lewis will officiate, and the 9:30 service will feature festive music in honor of the occasion. All this to be topped off with a celebratory social/coffee hour in the undercroft! Come rejoice with us for this major milestone in the history of the church!

“Recalling the past at her daughters' request, Lara tells the story of a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance, which causes her daughters to examine their own lives and reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.”

~ hclib.org

We have an interesting line-up of selections this year and invite all St. David’s parishioners to participate. We meet on the first Tuesday of every other month from 6:30 – 7:55, usually on Zoom. Here is this year’s schedule – please join us!

St. David’s “Back to School” Supply Drive

Over the years we have partnered with ResourceWest (a division of ICA) collecting school supplies for our local community. A big thanks goes out to Anne Monteith for her many faithful years of leading this outreach ministry.  Our recent appeal to find new leadership to coordinate this school supply collection did not reveal any takers. Not wanting to abandon this outreach opportunity, the Holy Spirit must have been flowing through the email system that same day, as we received word from ResourceWest about a new program they have launched to obtain needed school supplies. Think going on line, shopping from a wish list, and then your gift gets sent directly to ResourceWest. Easy-peasy, and they get what they want and need. Click on the following link, and participate in this new streamlined giving opportunity. A student out there will be happy you did!

HOPKINS RASPBERRY FESTIVAL #1... IT’S A WRAP

Wow, what a fun time we had in our neighborhood this past weekend. Chatting with folks, sipping refreshing raspberry infused water, and sharing heartfelt gratitudes in our life fittingly describes our presence at the St David’s Marketplace Booth. Traveling down historic Hopkins Mainstreet, sharing treats/stickers, and being met with many hand waves and smiling faces recounts the fun we had participating in an old-fashioned parade. Thanks to all those who supported, participated, and volunteered in bringing this Faithful Innovation outing to fruition…. and a big shout out to the Carda Family for offering up their wheels!

My gratitude also goes out to an awesome planning committee who made it all happen: Bonnie Boyd, Nan Drake, Julia Handley, Paul Pederson and Becky Sweely.

Regards,

Diane Curley, Senior Warden

ICA Vision

A community where everyone has the resources to thrive

Birthday bags needed

Now in its third year, ICA’s birthday bag program has been very successful. It gives our neighbors the opportunity to receive bags for their children. The bags are generic and intended to be given to families with school-age children who have birthdays during that particular month. Each bag should contain a baking tin, cake mix, frosting, candles, plates and napkins.

Right now, ICA is running low on birthday bags. Please consider supporting this program by putting together a bag or two, ready to be given to a family. It can be a fun activity to put together a few bags with your children or grandchildren that will benefit local families not as fortunate as ours. You can bring your birthday bags directly to ICA at 11588 K-Tel Drive or put them in the ICA baskets at the church entrances.

Tour de Tonka on August 3

Do you and your family like to bike? If so, you might consider signing up for the upcoming Tour de Tonka, also known as “Minnesota’s Ride”, on Saturday, August 3. With six available routes, you can experience the stunning landscapes of the west metro.

Tour de Tonka partners with ICA to give participants an opportunity to make an impact with this ride. A portion of each rider’s registration fee is donated to ICA. Since 2006, Tour de Tonka has raised over $103,000 to support ICA. Riders can also donate money or non-perishable items on or before the day of the ride. If you are interested, you can register at https://minnetonka.events.eleyo.com/tour_de_tonka_2024

Education for Ministry This Fall

Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four-year small-group formation program based on study and practice in theological reflection. There are currently two EfM groups in ECMN, one in-person local one and one online:

  • In-person group: An in-person EfM group will meet Thursdays from 10:00AM – 12:00PM at Grace, beginning in September 2024. Interested participants should contact Kathy Monson Lutes or Danielle McCoy.
  • Online group: An online EfM group meets Mondays from 6:30-8:30PM on Google Meet, following an academic year schedule (Sept. – May). The group includes members from several ECMN parishes as well as some non-Minnesotans.

Please note that in order to register for either group for the fall, the group mentor(s) will need your name to add to their group in the EfM registration system this summer, which will prompt the system to invite you to register.

Interested but want to know more before deciding whether or not to participate? We’re happy to facilitate a conversation with a current participant or mentor – please email efm.ecmn@gmail.com with that request.

Want to participate but neither of these options works for you? Let us know at efm.ecmn@gmail.com – there are also online groups based elsewhere, and another in-person group could be formed if there’s sufficient interest.
