We're building a new home for conservation! The Grey Rocks Conservation Center will broaden the visibility of NLRA and our services, engaging the community in watershed exploration in all four seasons and in any weather.

The building envelope is being constructed this week. We are working with Bensonwood, a New Hampshire company that prioritizes sustainable building practices and specializes in energy-efficient panelized construction. Because of the panelized design, the building envelope will be complete by next week!

The Grey Rocks Conservation Center project is possible because of the enthusiasm and generosity of the Newfound community. Thank you!

Clean Your Driveway Culverts

Be prepared for fall rain and spring snowmelt! Now is a good time to ensure that your driveway culverts are in good working order.

Functioning culverts allow stormwater to flow within the proper channels, protecting Newfound's water quality and preventing erosion and washouts. Here are some simple tips to ensure your culverts are prepared to do their job:

  1. Remove rocks, plant material, and debris that has collected around the inlet or outfall.
  2. Ensure the stone or concrete headwalls on either side of the culvert are intact.
  3. Use a long-handled garden hoe to remove as much sediment from inside the culvert as possible.
  4. Dig a hole at the downhill end of the culvert to capture loose sediment that gets washed out of the culvert. This will keep it from clogging ditches and culverts downstream.
  5. If your culvert is over 30% filled with sediment, or frequently causes erosion, it may be time to upgrade to a larger pipe!

Leave a Legacy for Generations to Come

October is National Estate Planning Awareness Month, a time to reflect on what matters most to you–and how you can protect it for years to come.

Having a complete and current estate plan is the best way to protect your assets, make your wishes known, and—most importantly—ensure the people and causes that matter most to you are taken care of in the future.

You can continue your legacy to protect Newfound Lake by including NLRA in your estate plans. There are many ways to make a planned gift, ranging from beneficiary designation of a 401k or IRA to a gift in your will. See how you can plan for your future, and the future of Newfound, by visiting NewfoundLake.org/planned-giving.
