From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear SRS Parents and Guardians,

Our 14th annual Trunk or Treat is scheduled for this Friday, October 25. To date we have over 450 people and 46 cars registered for the event. A special thank you is extended to the Lopez family for coordinating this event. Your assistance is still needed to provide candy if you haven’t done so already. The schedule and a few reminders are listed below. The school parking lot will be closed off at 4:45. Aftercare parents please take note.

5:00 P.M. Car set up begins. Please follow the directions of the traffic monitors as to where you should be parking. All attendees must park off school property in the neighborhood, church parking lot, or municipal parking lot. Candy will be given out to the cars before the event begins. Please wait until the event begins to hand out candy to trick or treaters.

5:45 - 6:00 P.M. Welcome and Prayer. There will be a 50/50 Drawing, Pumpkin Decorating Contest, and prizes awarded for trunk decorating and costumes.

6:00 P.M. - 6:45P.M. Trunk or Treat. Once the candy runs out the event will end.

Approximately 6:50 P.M. – Wrap-Up, Clean-Up, and Departure. Cars will exit the lot starting at 7:00 P.M.

Once the event ends, all attendees are asked to quickly leave the venue to allow cars to exit safely. Please clean up all your litter.

Parents are asked to monitor their children during this event. Children should not be dropped off unless they are accompanied by an adult. We will have all ages attending this event, so for the safety and well being of everyone, children at every age need to be well supervised.

This event takes place in the front parking lot only. Children are not allowed to roam all over the school property or off the school property. Trunk or Treat is a family friendly event and everyone is expected to follow the “St. Rita Way” in their interactions with both the car hosts and other attendees. Respectful manners, positive interactions, proper and safe behavior, and cleaning up after the event is expected from everyone. Thank you for keeping this event safe and fun-filled for all!

Halloween, St. Rita style, will be held on Thursday, October 31!!! Our teachers have planned many educational and fun activities for our students on Thursday. Please refer to the email from your child’s teacher regarding costumes and the costume parade (younger students only). It should be a fun-filled and fright-filled day!

Next Friday, November 1 is All Saints Day. The school students will be attending 12:00 (noon) Mass at St. Rita Church. Parents and grandparents are invited to join us. Our PreK , kindergarten, and first grade classes will not be joining us in order to have room for all our parishioners who attend this Holy Day of Obligation.

The weather may be turning colder later than sooner but nonetheless, the students will continue to go outside for recess and lunchtime, weather permitting. Please be sure your child/ren is/are dressed appropriately, and also please label their personal belongings, especially fleeces and coats.

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Enjoy the rest of the week. Can’t wait to see you all on Friday!

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Parents: Please try to take care of any business

with the office before 2:20.

After 2:20, many things are happening at once, including dismissal. Phone calls and pickups for early dismissal after 2:20 are distracting and time consuming, and hinder the dismissal process.

You cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Nurse's Corner

COVID and respiratory virus policy change:

In conjunction with the health department, Hamden Public Schools and Saint Rita School will be adopting the new COVID policy.

If your child tests positive for COVID, they should stay home for 24 hours.

If they do not present with a fever , they can return to school after 24 hours. Wearing a mask for 5 days is advised as there is still a high transmission rate.

If they develop a fever, they should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine. They can then return to school and it is advised that they wear a mask for 5 days.

If during the 5 day mask period they develop a fever, the clock resets. They should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine. Returning to school with a mask for 5 days is advised.

Medication in school:

If your child requires medication in school, the medication must be brought in by a parent along with a Medication Administration in School

completed by the pediatrician.

Cough drops brought into school must stay in the nurse's office.

Any OTC medication should not be sent into school with your child (Advil, Tylenol, midol, allergy medicine, etc...) If your child requires any OTC medicine while at school they can go to the nurses office and a parent will be called to bring the medicine into school and administer it to their child.

PreSchool Flu Shots:

All Pre school students are required to get a flu vaccine before we leave for Christmas break. Please send in a note from the doctor after your child receives their flu shot.

7th Grade Physicals:

All students entering 7th grade must have a physical dated after May 31st of the 5th grade year. They are also required to have a tetanus booster and meningitis vaccine. If your child is in the 6th grade now, physicals for 7th grade can be sent into the health office at any time during this school year. Any physical dated after May 31, 2024 will be accepted.

Nut allergies in the classroom:

If your child is in a classroom with a student with a severe nut allergy, your child's teacher will have informed you that any foods containing nuts should only be eaten in the cafeteria. Please do not send in a snack with nut ingredients. Thank you for helping us to keep all of our students safe.
