National Institute of Allergy, Immunology, and Infectious Disease (NIAID), National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md., awarded Dr. Devendra K. Agrawal as the Principal Investigator/Program Director a five-year R25 grant effective Dec. 4, 2024 titled “Research Education Program to Promote Diversity in Immunologic and Allergic Diseases” in the total amount of $1,875,768.
The Senior/Key Personnel on this award include Dr. Suresh Appavoo (VP, HEAR), Dr. Edward Barnes II (Associate Professor & Vice Dean, COMP), Dr. Angela Hegamin (Assistant Dean, College of Optometry), Dr. Bradley Henson (Senior Vice Provost), Associate Dean Sean Rowan (CDM), Dr. Jesus Sanchez (Professor & Assistant Dean, COMP), and Dr. Airani Sathananthan (Professor, COMP). The objective of this R25 Program Project is to provide mentored summer research opportunities to qualified and highly motivated health professional students from diverse backgrounds in the colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Dental Medicine, Optometry, Podiatric Medicine, and Pharmacy, to receive mentoring and training in the biomedical research relevant to the mission of NIAID. The goal is to effectively train and inspire health science students through mentored-research experience with instruction in the responsible conduct of research, instruction in methods for enhancing reproducibility, grant and scientific writing, and research methods. Inclusive Leadership Training workshop for the R25 student participants, and a Training Workshop for Faculty Mentors and Advisors will be kindly offered by Dr. Suresh Appavoo.
