I am honored to serve as co-chair of the CISE 2024 Annual Campaign alongside CISE Board Chair David Williams. The mission of CISE to provide high-quality Catholic education to students in Cincinnati’s inner-city communities is something I am deeply passionate about. I am grateful for the opportunity to support this vital cause.
Our journey with Catholic education began when my wife, Paula, and I chose to send our two sons to St. Xavier High School, despite living in Wyoming, which offers an excellent public school system. This decision remains one of the best we’ve ever made as parents. Our younger son, a 2016 graduate, now thrives in the technology field with a master’s degree in business data analytics. Our older son, a 2014 graduate, completed medical school and is currently a dermatology resident at George Washington University. (read more)

A Message From Phil McHugh
CISE President & Executive Director
| |
As we approach the final months of 2024, the team at CISE extends our deepest gratitude to the principals and teachers at CISE-supported elementary schools. These dedicated individuals work tirelessly each day to deliver a values-based Catholic education to their students and families. CISE is committed to recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional educators. To that end, we fund retention payments to support these schools to offer their teachers. For the 2024-2025 school year, we’re proud to share that 80% of these teachers returned! This highlights our shared dedication to cultivating outstanding educators and strong school communities.
In partnership with Mount St. Joseph University, we are excited to launch a new Parent Academy Program. Through an eight-week educational series, this program aims to empower parents with information and strategies to support their students academically on their path to college or career. We are grateful for the generosity of two loyal donors, Harry Santen and Nick Ragland, who made this initiative possible.
Finally, our 2024 Annual Campaign is now in full swing, with Nate Lampley, Jr. and David J. Williams leading the way. For our Ohio donors, contributions to the CISE Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) provide a valuable state income tax credit (which is more valuable than a tax deduction) in addition to making a meaningful impact. To learn more, please visit: CISEKids.org/SGO.
In gratitude, Phil McHugh

CISE-SGO (Scholarship Granting Organization) | |
Did you know a donation to CISE-SGO not only opens doors through education and vital services but also gives Ohio donors a dollar-for-dollar tax credit (up to $750/individual or $1,500/married couple)? That means every dollar you give is one less you pay in taxes.
As you know, CISE-SGO transforms the lives of thousands of Cincinnati children facing poverty by providing a strong, faith-based education. With our tax designation, your generosity offers both a rewarding return for you and a brighter future for them.
Make an impact today and experience the return of paying it forward.

Brooke Rouse
St. Lawrence | Seton class of 2018 | Mount St. Joseph Graduate
Brooke Rouse's greatest achievement, the one she is most proud of so far in her life, is her graduation from Mt. St. Joseph University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies.
When Brooke reflects on her life thus far, she noted that her years of Catholic education taught her the value of learning and to always have hope, "I feel moved to share just how grateful I am for not only my selfless and dedicated teachers throughout my Catholic education, but also for CISE, who awarded me a scholarship to attend Seton High School. The generosity of so many equipped me with tools to work hard and paved the way for me to succeed." (read more)

Measuring Impact and Defining Innovation
by Dr. Mari Thomas and Mike Kennedy
| CISE’s primary focus over its 40-year history has been on sustaining Catholic grade schools in their neighborhoods. Vision 2021 & Beyond called on CISE to further expand the vital “bookends” to grade school: preschool and high school. Under the leadership of Phil McHugh, CISE onboarded Mari Thomas, Career Navigator and Workforce Intermediary and Mike Kennedy, Director of Strategic Initiatives and High School Scholarship Programs, to explore educational pathways to prepare CISE-supported schools for life after high school and build out the high school scholarship fund. New Windows for St. William School
CISE is proud to partner with St. William Parish on a capital project that brings a much-needed update: new windows throughout St. William School.
On September 18, the school celebrated this improvement with a special Mass and blessing ceremony. Led by Fr. Zach Cecil, the event gathered students, teachers, vendors, and donors to mark this transformative addition to the school.
This project reflects our shared commitment to providing CISE students with welcoming and inspiring spaces to learn and grow.
