SOMBA proudly supports District Supervisor Matt Dorsey in his commitment to tackling the pressing challenges facing our community. Supervisor Dorsey has expressed serious concerns about the deteriorating conditions around Sixth Street and its surrounding areas and is taking decisive action.
On January 3rd, Supervisor Dorsey formally submitted a Letter of Inquiry and issued a press release proposing a one-year pilot program designed to reduce harm, create pathways to recovery, and restore order to Sixth Street and SOMA as a whole. The program integrates compulsory detox, targeted enforcement, and court-mandated treatment.
The pilot program aims to make a minimum of 100 arrests per night, in tandem with court-mandated treatment and detox. This strategy not only seeks to enhance public safety, but also provides those struggling with addiction a vital opportunity to transition into recovery.
Supervisor Dorsey’s approach is rooted in his profound understanding of addiction and the transformative power of recovery, drawing from his own lived experience as a member of the recovery community. His leadership prioritizes intervention and action to create meaningful change for both individuals and the broader community.
