A Legacy of Learning
Opening of New School Pens Next Chapter in History of ‘The Mount’
|
A new era has begun at Mt. Assisi Place personal care home — former site of our Mount Assisi Convent and Mount Assisi Academy in Pittsburgh, Pa. — with the opening of The Saint Constantine School of Pittsburgh in August. Classrooms and hallways once occupied by MAA students are alive once again with the enthusiastic voices of school children, and our Sisters couldn’t be more thrilled.
The history and heritage of the property was among the factors that drew the Texas-based program to establish its first satellite campus there. Just days before its August 19 opening, the school hosted a special blessing in the gym, officially kicking off the 2024-2025 school term and a new chapter in the storied history of “The Mount.”

As an educator in the 19th Century, Antonia Lampel knew that, in large part, the condition of future families and society was dependent upon the proper education and training of youth. | Frances Antonia Lampel, foundress of the School Sisters of St. Francis | |
First Antonia Lampel Scholarships Benefit Students Where We Serve |
To carry forward our century of work in education and to empower the next generation of young women, the U.S. Province established the Antonia Lampel Scholarship Fund in 2023. Recently, the very first scholarships were awarded to students from cities in which our Sisters serve.
A collective total of $22,000 in educational assistance was awarded to 24 students to attend Catholic grade schools and high schools in their hometowns, beginning with the 2024-2025 school term this fall. The scholars live in the Pennsylvania towns of Bethlehem, Allentown, Pittsburgh and Reading, as well as in Somerset, New Jersey, and San Antonio, Texas — all places where our Sisters have lived, served and operated schools.
The fund was started with a handful of generous seed donations, and it is our hope that it will be perpetually enriched by our alumnae and friends who wish to pay forward their gift of Catholic education.
With your help, we can make the gift of Catholic education available to more students. Click here to donate online (select Antonia Lampel Scholarship Fund when asked to choose a fund for your donation). Donations also can be mailed to School Sisters of St. Francis, Attn: Scholarship Fund, 4900 Perry Highway, Suite 201, Pittsburgh PA 15229.
