The Kirkwood Highway Land Use and Transportation Plan Draft Recommendations are ready to review. See the draft recommendations and share your thoughts by taking the survey at www.wilmapco.org/kirkwood. The deadline to take the survey is January 15, 2025.

The Kirkwood Highway Land Use and Transportation Plan is in the news!

As reported by DelawareOnline, "Transportation officials are developing plans to transform Kirkwood Highway from a high-speed corridor into a more community-friendly thoroughfare. The project's latest developments were discussed at a public workshop, where officials presented draft recommendations for improving both transportation and land use along the highway."

The MD Route 272 Corridor Plan is aimed at improving transportation along the MD-272 from Joseph Biggs Memorial Highway in the north to Shady Beach Road and Hance Point Road in the south. For more information about this project, to sign up for updates, and take the survey, visit www.wilmapco.org/272. Claymont master plan thinks tall and welcoming

As reported by TownSquareLive, "Residents and other stakeholders in the future of the community prefer a wide-ranging Claymont master plan that allows buildings up to four stories in two areas, multiple ways to slow traffic, and a roundabout at Philadelphia Pike and Gov. Printz Boulevard that could be a welcoming gateway. The Wilmington Area Planning Council in 2023 began updating plans for the central and southern parts of Claymont, following a 2017 plan for the northern section and a 2021 plan for Gov. Printz."

Join DVRPC's paid focus group.

WILMAPCO and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) invite residents of low-income and disadvantaged communities to participate in a paid focus group to share feedback and identify priorities to reduce harmful effects of climate change. We are currently developing a Regional Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) that will both address community priorities and reduce the effects of climate change.

DelDOT and DNREC deliver state's Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan to the public

As reported by Delaware Public Media, "Delaware's Department of Transportation (DelDOT) and the state’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) have teamed up to produce a plan known as "Charging Forward," which presents how to create an electric vehicle (EV) charging network throughout Delaware."

Avelo adds options for local flights, jobs

As reported in the Delaware Business Times, "Avelo Airlines is seeing growth fly through Wilmington Airport (ILG) with the addition of another plane and six more nonstop destinations, the company announced this week. The move also signals economic growth for New Castle County as the national company works to hire around 30 more employees to fill the spots needed to man the new routes and aircraft while serving the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region."

How many trees does it take to cool a city? Researchers develop tool to set urban tree canopy goals

As reported by Phys.org, "Tree-planting programs are a popular, nature-based way to cool cities, but these initiatives have been largely based on guesswork and extrapolation. A study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences offers a new tool for urban planners and decision makers to set more specific and science-based city-wide greening goals.."
