 December Happenings

Dear Friends,

With a small layer of snow on the ground, chilly temperatures, and the Marcy Field tree decked out in lights, it does in fact feel like the start to the holiday season! We have a lovely selection of trees, and Ann has been busy making wreaths. Bhakta Spirits Tasting

Friday, Dec. 13, 3:30-5:30

Join us for a tasting of the intriguing and delicious Bhakta Spirits!

Raj Peter Bhakta is the founder of Bhakta Spirits and Whistle Pig Whiskey. After selling his stake in Whistle Pig in 2019, Bhakta embarked on a sabbatical in search of new discoveries in the world of spirits. A twist of fate brought him to Condom, France, where he unearthed—and acquired—a miraculous cellar of ancient Armagnac dating back to 1868.

We will be tasting and making cocktails with “1928”. Named “1928” for the oldest vintage of Armagnac in the blend, it also contains 1941, 1962 and 1973, fusing ancient French Armagnacs and Calvados to perfect this Rye whiskey bottled in Vermont.

Wine Tasting!

Saturday, Dec. 21, 3:30-5:45

Need a last-minute gift? Still need some wine for Christmas dinner? Or--most importantly--just want to come out and enjoy some wines with us? The tasting is free and any wines purchased at the event are 10% off.

Paperwhites & Amaryllis!

Wine & Spirits Shop Update

Field Recordings

Fiction Red Blend

I can't tell you how many red blends we tried before finally finding Fiction--it was an "Aha!" moment! Fiction is a blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and several other varietals. Organically grown grapes, minimal sulfites added, aged in French oak but not too "oaky"--this luscious red checks all the boxes! Come try it at our Dec. 21 tasting!

Do Good Spirits

Beaverkill Bourbon Cream

Do Good Spirits is a veteran owned distillery in Roscoe, New York, and their Beaverkill Bourbon Cream is delicious! Beaverkill (named after the Beaverkill River that flows through Roscoe), is a fabulous New York State alternative to other cream whiskies such as Baily's.

Isolation Proof

Orchard Gin

Isolation Proof Gin, located in the Catskills, makes sustainable gins using local ingredients. Many of you have tried Isolation Proof's original gin as well as their beautiful pink Summer Gin, and now we have the perfect gin for fall and winter sipping! Orchard Gin is begins with the 7 botanicals in their original gin, then they add macerated wild apples (picked from the distillery property!) and diced dried pears post distillation. It is excellent as a sipper, in traditional gin cocktails, or in any other creative cocktails you might concoct!

Evil Twin

Silent Night in a New York City Taproom

This Belgian style blonde ale is brewed with orange peel and ginger. It is strong (12%ABV) and sooooo good! Grab a 4pack for holiday cheer before they disappear!

Fat Orange Cat!

Winter Warmer Ale

Another yummy ale with spices, but with a more mild-mannered ABV than the Evil Twin!

Four Quarters Brewing

Dark is Night

Imperial Stout

Hailing from Winooski, Vermont, this is your Winter Solstice libation of choice! The can label even includes some winter solstice poetry:

"Though my soul may set in darkness,

it will rise in perfect light;

I have loved the stars too fondly

to be fearful of the night"--Sarah Williams

Fun Horticultural Fact!

"There's Rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you love, remember," Ophelia in William Shakespeare's Hamlet, V, iv, 196-197

When Ophelia claims that rosemary is for remembrance, she is asking people to remember the tragic events that transpired earlier in the play. But this quote is based on the fact the rosemary has long been considered an excellent medicinal herb for remembrance. To help sharpen our memories, some of us at EBO have been steeping a sprig of rosemary in water (pour the hot water over the rosemary) for 4-6 minutes and giving our brains a boost Shakespeare style!
