NEW YOUTH DIRECTOR


John Lopp has been hired as the new youth directory and has begun his work of preparing for the new year and will be ready to launch into a new season of Youth Ministry at Horne in September!


For those who do not know John yet, John grew up at Horne Memorial and was active in youth ministry during his youth years. He is a graduate of Western Carolina University and gained excellent youth experience during his time at Western Carolina, through teaching experience in the public school system, with the Boys and Girls Club, and with other youth programs and mission organizations.


We are delighted to welcome him to the staff of the church and look forward to his work with our youth! John may be reached at John@Horneumc.net and in worship on Sundays! Welcome, John!


YOUTH & PARENTS


John Lopp has joined our staff as the Youth Director and is excited to begin the new ministry year with us in September!


We will hold a "get to know you" time for youth and parents on Sunday, August 25 during the 10:00 hour in room 217. You are invited to stop in to meet and talk with John! Please join us in welcoming John to the staff of Horne Memorial UMC!


Reminder! The first night of youth group is Wednesday, September 18 from 6;30pm-8:00pm.

However, we will also have a churchwide family event for everyone, with food, desserts and games for all on Wednesday, September 11, 5:30pm- 7pm outside by the picnic shelter.

Our Greeter training will be held on Sunday, August 25 in two sessions, and our Greeter program rolls out on Sunday, September 8!

The Legal Side of Mental Health Care

Angela Lassiter is the guest speaker. Angela is an attorney with a broad scope of knowledge and experience with the legal side of mental health. She will discuss Healthcare Powers of Attorney, General Powers of Attorney, Psychiatric Advance Directives, Voluntary and Involuntary Commitments, Wake County’s Mental Health Court and all things legal that you need to know. You won’t want to miss this informative presentation.

As we get ready for a new year of worship and discipleship, we are putting together a list of people we can look for when dealing with a medical emergency, hoping never to need to use that list! Y'all ready for some good ol' fun at Horne? We're kickin' off the fall season with a bang! Join us on Wednesday, September 11 from 5:30pm-7pm for our fall cookout kickoff hosted by the men of Horne!


It's gonna be a celebration as we dedicate our debt-free playground, picnic area, and annex building. And guess what? Chris Brady, our District Superintendent, will be hanging out with us! We'll have fellowship, burn that ceremonial note celebrating the payoff of our picnic area, playground and annex, and hey, maybe even roast some s'mores!

Dropping off Children

Children 3 years old through 5th grade are invited to join a Sunday School class each Sunday from 10:00-10:45. We gather in the basement (ground floor) by the inside tunnel entrance at 9:55am. They will be picked up at 10:45 from the ground floor classrooms B9 (K-2nd), B7 (preschool age), B6 (3rd-5th).

Kingdom Kids!


Join us after Children's Time in both 9am and 11am worship services! Leaders will be available to take you down to Kingdom Kids (3 years-5th grade) or to the nursery under 3 years of age. We have exciting new curriculum for our Kingdom Kids - join us!

Join us Wednesday nights (3 years - 5th grade) for an exciting time filled with learning, singing & fun with friends! Will your child be a part of the party? Join us beginning Wednesday, September 18 in the Sanctuary (6:30pm-7:30pm). Contact Anne Elizabeth for more information.

Children's Ministry Volunteer Position Descriptions


JAM: Lead an age-level group of kids (age 3 years - 5th grade) on Wednesday nights. Each grade-level has a pre-selected curriculum. All lesson plans and materials will be provided. Small amount of prep-work is involved i.e. previewing the lesson plan each week.


Sunday School: Lead either Younger Kids (age 3 years -1st grade) or Older Kids (2nd grade - 5th grade) on Sunday mornings from 10-10:55 AM. Each age grouping has a preselected lesson for each week. All lesson plans and materials will be provided. Volunteers will receive lessons the week before they are scheduled to lead.


Nursery: Care for children 3 years and younger during times when activities taking place at the church require child-care. 


**All volunteers will need to pass a background check and complete an online Safe Sanctuaries course.

Youth News

Youth Group programming begins Wednesday, September 18 (6:30-8)


We are looking forward to another exciting adventure with youth this fall. Join us and bring a friend or two! We kick off with fun, games and food on Wednesday, September 11 with a churchwide picnic from 5:30-7pm for the whole family at the Recreational building and playground. Come enjoy Hamburgers and hotdogs and games for all ages.

Monday Prayer Time - 12:15pm

Come join us anytime no registration required.


We gather in the Lassiter House each Monday to pray at 12:15, beginning with a centering scripture passage, and then we pray through the joys and needs of the week. We close with the Lord’s Prayer. Kim Lamb guides this prayer time. Group time ends at 12:50pm. If this is your lunch break, please bring your lunch to eat while we pray! If you are headed to the 1pm Bible Study or to pick up your child from Preschool, we will dismiss in time for you to walk to the main building!
