Leaps and Bounds of Progress for Tristan

Tristan is a 15-year-old boy with a gift for drawing, a brilliant mind and a tender heart that he shows to those he trusts through big hugs and kisses.

But before he came to Connections, these strengths weren’t visible. He barely spoke, and his autism-related behaviors were so extreme that his family struggled with even basic tasks like going to the grocery store, where he was prone to throwing disruptive fits or dangerously running away. See how things have changed for Tristan and his family.

Florida Panthers' Adaptive Hockey Clinic is a Hit!

After winning their first-ever Stanley Cup, the Florida Panthers took some time to invest in the community. One way was through an Adaptive Hockey Clinic open to individuals with cognitive, development and/or physical disabilities.

Some of our adult clients and older students participated and loved learning how to ice skate and enjoy this sport. This clinic — held weekly for seven weeks — promotes inclusivity and gives individuals with autism another way to connect with peers in the community.

We appreciate community partners like the Florida Panthers!

Summertime at Connections — ESY & Summer Camp!

Did you know that the Connections campus continues buzzing all summer?

After the calendar school year, many of our students qualify for Extended School Year (ESY) to give them more time to work on goals identified in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). ESY runs the first two weeks of summer break.

Then, many students attend the Connections Summer Camp, a six-week program that gives students with autism a safe, engaging place to spend summer days while caregivers work. Our program is designed to reduce the regression that many students experience during school breaks, and it enables our students to maintain a routine, which is especially important to children with autism. Our camp is staffed by caring counselors who are well-trained in autism.

In addition to the activities on our campus, students enjoy supervised community outings to places like the park, bowling alley, science museum and more!

We appreciate everyone who made this year's summer camp possible, including the Women's Golf Association at PGA National that gave summer camp scholarships to 10 students who otherwise would not have been able to attend. Thank you!
