Winter Weather Reminders

Winter operations and safety reminders

Winter has arrived. The Town is committed to providing a consistent level of snow removal service throughout the winter season. Using a combination of Town staff and contractors, plowing, sanding and salting is performed each winter with consideration to safety, environmental and budgetary concerns. Brush up on your winter wisdom with these reminders.

  • Check the online winter operations tracker to see when a plow is near you.
  • Priority routes are cleared first, followed by secondary routes.
  • Many factors, including emergency vehicle routes and fire stations, traffic volumes, transit routes and more, determine priority routes.
  • Don't throw snow or ice on the road when clearing your driveway or sidewalk.
  • No ice is safe ice. Do not use stormwater ponds for recreational activities and be cautious around all frozen bodies of water.
  • Be patient with snowplows and allow extra time and space when driving in snowy conditions.
  • And remember, if you move your car, we’ll move the snow. Cars parked on Town roads make plowing harder.

For more on stormwater ponds, visit georgina.ca/StormwaterPond. To learn more about winter operations in Georgina, visit georgina.ca/snow.
