When do you know all that you need to know? That question may seem a bit uneducated (pun intended). We all know the truth that the more you know, the more you discover you need to learn. It is a problematic mistake if we ever pick a time when we believe we can stop learning. Medical professionals remind us of the importance of keeping the mind active and engaged as we grow older.

With this concept in mind, as a leader in the church and as a spiritual leader, I fully understand the importance of continuing my education beyond the acquisition of my Master of Divinity degree. I need to advance my knowledge in Scripture, leadership techniques, the movement of society, practical matters, pastoral care, and personal faith. I am charged by the church and by the Lord to continue growing and expanding my views and my faith. This is the reason that in my call as your pastor, I am given both the time and the financial resources to attend continuing education events.

While continuing education is required and encouraged by a variety of professional employment positions, i.e., lawyers, teachers, medical professionals, etc., I do not believe that anyone should not take advantage of growing in their education. This does not need to be in a formal setting, but Balmoral Presbyterian Church provides a variety of opportunities to make this a reality for each of you. There are the adult study classes, the PW Bible studies, the library with a large variety of reading materials, the book club, Tuesdays with Ted, and general conversations with one another or me. Please be sure you are taking advantage of growing in your knowledge and your faith. If there is something specific you would like to learn about, please let me know and we will find a way to make it happen.

Blessings,

Pastor Mark

Remarkably Bright Creatures

 by Shelby Van Pelt.

NAMED A BEST BOOK OF SUMMER by: Chicago Tribune * The View * Southern Living * USA Today!

A charming, witty and compulsively readable exploration of friendship, reckoning, and hope that traces a widow's unlikely connection with a giant Pacific octopus.

Discussion led by Robin Ashworth

The Human Resources Team

The Human Resources Team is the support team for our employees; that is, a full-time pastor, a part-time music director, a pianist, and a contracted pastor associate. The HR Team is responsible for the accuracy of job descriptions, assistance with the annual review process, any changes to compensation and the budget, and making ourselves available should any issues arise. We speak about these team responsibilities in very formal terms and work to maintain a formal administrative structure for the staff. Yet, we are church members and we maintain an open, friendly place for our employees who are respected, loved individuals, and we value their friendship as well as their work.

The HR Team includes Clinton Bailey, Frank Carney, Becky DeLoach, Cliff Gurlen, and Mary Schmitz (Team Leader).
