December 2nd is.... National Special Education Day
This day commemorates the anniversary of our nation’s first federal special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, signed by President Ford on December 2, 1975. This day was first celebrated in 2005 when the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) celebrated its 30th year. IDEA made public education available to all eligible children with disabilities across the nation and ensured special education and related services were provided for those children. This day honors the milestones that have been achieved for special education so far and reminds us of the continued progress to come. We are thankful for the students, parents, teachers, and administration striving to make special education possible for our students.
Welcome Samantha to the Antelope Valley office!
Help us in welcoming Sam Moreno as she joins our AV team! Sam found out about Family Focus while searching Instagram for disability resources for herself; she was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was just 11 years old! Although initially in denial about her disability, her older brother helped her view her epilepsy in a positive light, and that motivated her to start creating content on social media about epilepsy. She shares her own experiences, and also works with students in special day classes at a local school. She can't wait to also help the families of children and young adults with disabilities!
Sam loves Star Wars, Fast and the Furious, and any rom-com movie, and has been crocheting for over 8 years! Welcome Sam!
