Each year, the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce membership hosts a New Teachers Breakfast to welcome new educators to the Henderson County community. This year’s event was presented by AdventHealth and Stuller Power Solutions, with support from Optimum, and partners Barnette & Coates, Champion Credit Union, and Mars Hill University at Highland Lake Inn. We were pleased to welcome nearly 100 new teachers to our community. They enjoyed a fantastic breakfast, as well as a panel of experts who provided valuable insights on topics relevant to newcomers, including Cole Ordiway from BluAxis Realty (Real Estate), Peggy Marshall from the Henderson County Education Foundation (Engagement), and Summer Stipe from Juniper (Things to Do).
As the school year begins, we also look forward to welcoming a new group of students to our Junior Leaders program, presented by Champion Comfort Experts and Kimberly-Clark Corporation. This program, a partnership with Henderson County Public Schools, Fernleaf and Veritas Academy, offers high school juniors the opportunity to learn about our community and develop leadership skills. Throughout the school year, you might see them downtown, interviewing business owners, entrepreneurs, local government officials, and more.
These programs, along with the NC Scholars and Teachers of the Year Reception, are Just some of the Chamber’s Education & Workforce Division initiatives. Events like our annual Chamber Trivia Challenge on September 19th help raise funds to support these programs. This year’s Trivia Challenge will be held at the National Guard Armory, sponsored by AdventHealth, Mars Hill University, and Hannah Flanagan’s. Businesses can choose to sponsor a school team or participate with their own team.
