As One Bistro reflects on the highlights and challenges of 2024, we are amazed by the sovereignty of our Lord and overwhelmed by the goodness of God. As we provide a place where our neighbors eat and come together as one community, we hold steadfast to “So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, you should do it all for God’s glory” (I Corinthians 10:31).
Being a non-profit, community café, we have some of the same challenges that any other for-profit, food service industry would face – rising food costs, equipment that needs repaired or replaced, unexpected power outages, the occasional plumbing problem, and turnover in staff. We manage these snags with grit and resolve and cover everything in prayer, knowing “that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
Recalling our highlights gives us the great honor of celebrating a most generous and supportive community who loves and embraces our volunteer, pay-what-you-can, pay-it-forward model where we provide a seat at the table for everyone! We had 13 Table Sponsors, 54 Community Meal Sponsors, and 39 Volunteer Groups. YOU helped make it our largest ever National Everybody Eats Weeks – honoring our local heroes! As a community, you provided One Bistro with 10,212 volunteer hours and you big-heartedly contributed Pay-it-Forward making it possible for us to give away 10,862 complimentary meals to our hungry neighbors. That is LOVE in action: “Generous people will be blessed, because they share their food with the poor” (Proverbs 22:9).
We have incredible partnerships and we cherish each one! Whether you grew flowers for the tables, painted our chalk board, grew our delicious microgreens, bibb lettuce & other produce, bought Tokens to bless others, helped us prepare boxed meals for the community or provided stockings for our guests at Christmas…each of you are important and loved. “There are different ways to serve the same Lord…” (I Corinthians 12:5).
Looking forward to 2025, let us remember how Paul encourages us in Philippians 3:12-14 as he sits in prison, unsure of his own future of being released. “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.”
So, we ask, will you join One Bistro in joyous anticipation of setting our priorities of reaching more for Christ as we strive to be all we can be for Jesus while we love and feed our neighbors? We hope you’ll say “yes”.
