RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST

Dear Residents & Community Members,

Our area remains under a Red Flag Warning until 6 p.m. this evening. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected or occurring. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels will create a significantly elevated fire growth potential.

To ensure everyone's safety and to minimize the risk of fire, please do not perform any actions that may cause a spark or produce a flame. Specifically, please avoid the following:

  • All outside burning is strictly prohibited
  • Avoid using lawn mowers in dry vegetation
  • Do not park your vehicle on dry grass or leaves
  • Discard all cigarette butts safely. Avoid tossing any butts out of car windows.

A special thank you to the Monroe Joint Fire District for their efforts in containing the brush fire on West Mombasha Road & Bramertown Road near the Appalachian Trail, with Monroe Lakeside Fire & Rescue Company serving as a command center during this operation. We are grateful to all of our volunteers for their selfless service and dedication to the safety of our community.

We also extend our gratitude to our neighboring fire companies as well as Orange County for their assistance in ensuring the fire remained contained. In the event of a fire, please call 911 immediately. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Cordially,

Tony Cardone

Supervisor, Town of Monroe
