Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us this Sunday for Worship

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

We will have a guest speaker, Emmanuel Pius from Tanzania.

The Scripture for his message will be:

James 1: 27

27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

maryann13fenstermacher@gmail.com.

Psalm 33:4-11 Because the Lord's word is right, his every act is done in good faith. He loves righteousness and justice; The Lord's faithful love fills the whole earth. The skies were made by the Lord's word, all their starry multitude by the breath of his mouth.

He gathered the ocean waters into a heap; he put the deep seas into storerooms. All the earth honors the Lord; all the earth's inhabitants stand in awe of him. Because when he spoke, it happened! When he commanded, there it was! The Lord overrules what the nations plan; he frustrates what the peoples intend to do. But the Lord's plan stands forever; what he intends to do lasts from one generation to the next.

Revelation 14:12-13 This calls for the endurance of the saints, who keep God's commandments and keep faith with Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Favored are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “so they can rest from their labors, because their deeds follow them.”

Joel 2:12-14 Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your hearts, with fasting, with weeping, and with sorrow; tear your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, very patient, full of faithful love, and ready to forgive. Who knows whether he will have a change of heart and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord your God?

Nahum 1:15 Look on the mountains: the feet of a messenger who announces peace! Celebrate your festivals, Judah! Fulfill your solemn promises! The worthless one will never again invade you; he has been completely cut off.

Luke 12:54-59 Jesus also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud forming in the west, you immediately say, 'lt's going to rain.' And indeed it does. And when a south wind blows, 'A heat wave is coming.' And it does. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret conditions on earth and in the sky. How is it that you don't know how to interpret the present time? And why don't you judge for yourselves what is right? As you are going to court with your accuser, make your best effort to reach a settlement along the way. Otherwise, your accuser may bring you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. I tell you, you won't get out of there until you have paid the very last cent."

Pumpkin Patch Thank You!

Our annual SUMC Pumpkin Patch has come to an end this year. It was a very successful year, with the weather cooperating beautifully, the Community participated in our many events, and we managed to sell a lot more pumpkins than last year too.

For those who like numbers here’s a few stats:

  • 450+ Community visitors came to our Trunk-or-Treat event with the Exotic Petting Zoo
  • 113 little pumpkins were painted and distributed to the Senior Living Facilities – thanks to the Girl Scouts
  • 70+ Volunteers came out to help unload the pumpkins including our Boy Scout Troop 93, Girl Scouts, and other High School National Honor Society students.
  • 40+ Community Visitors came to our Bark & Boo event and 20+ pets were blessed that day
  • Lots of great food provided by KC Whip and Company during the Family Fun Day
  • 4 is the number of Saturdays that the new Bouncy House was set up which attracted many little bouncers.
  • $25,012 is the Total Pumpkin sales this year
  • 35% is what the Church retains of that total
  • $1,358 in donations were received above the pumpkin sales.
  • 63% of all sales were made with electronic payment (Credit Cards)
  • 44 Volunteers working the 110 shifts during the month – BIG Thank You!

A lot of people were involved to make this year’s patch a success. I want to recognize and thank some exceptional volunteers that made this all possible!

  • Mary McCoy & Charla Nichols – Family Fun Day & Trunk-or-Treat Coordinators
  • Marianne D’Amato – Coordinating with the Girl Scouts and creating & printing all our promotional handouts (coloring pages for the kids and recipe books with the church information)
  • Mike Webb & Athena Sullivan – Bark & Boo Coordination and crafts
  • Kevin Schneier & Jim Hammons – Setting up the patch and the Bouncy House every weekend!
  • Athena Sullivan – Creating the very popular photo area in the patch
  • Sue Kim – all the creative digital graphics and advertising on-line

A big thank you to theses folks and all the volunteers for making this year fun and successful. I apologize if I’ve missed someone....

Looking ahead to 2025 real soon and If you have any suggestions to make things better or smoother let me know!

Steve D’Amato

Pumpkin Patch Chairman
