PUBLIC SAFETY INITIATIVES

We are awaiting a comprehensive audit that MA DOT is planning from the Otis Rotary to the end of 28A just past Palmer Avenue. This is a multi-town project that will likely not result in improvements for quite some time...likely years. We have, therefore, decided to focus our immediate advocacy on the single most serious safety deficiency we see along 28A in the Village. With the support of TAC, we have requested that the Town Manager and Select Board ask MA DOT to install an ADA compliant crosswalk with pedestrian operated signals at the West Falmouth Market. It will be positioned further north along 28A where it does not interfere with traffic entering and exiting the parking lot. We will continue to communicate with our State Senator and Representative to secure their leverage on this issue.

The Town is evaluating a Safety Zone along Chapoquoit Road which will result in a 20 MPH speed limit. With the support of the Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC), we have requested that the Town also establish a safety zone from the Old Dock Road parking lot to the Chapoquoit Road intersection.

A sidewalk extension has been approved and is planned to be constructed from the parking lot on Old Dock Road to the boat ramp, including an ADA compliant crosswalk at Nashawena Street. Thank you to Maurie Harlow-Hawkes for her unwavering focus on this project!

This majestic maple tree will need to unfortunately be sacrificed in order to make the necessary safety improvements in this area. It will be replaced by 3 new trees.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
